96 Jun 23 Comment Hello Gloria, I love your photo. Here's why: The colorful, blue boats set in front of a colorless background is a brilliant strategy for making an eye catching image. Bob did a nice job in bringing down the highlights, especially on the left and upper left side. If you go back to your high resolution file to replicate what Bob did, be careful not to add any detail on the background buildings. There's a nice quality to the drab feel that you created. Any further detailing would throw the balance off.
Very nice, Gloria. I'm truly impressed.

96 Jun 23 Comment Hi Viren, I'm most impressed with your forethought to use a long shutter speed to smooth out the water. It contributes to making the scene calm. The fog and warm tone further helps create that serenity.
Yes, because the sunlight comes from the opposite side of the bridge, you will get some silhouetting where you lose color. From my point of view, this is not a problem. To me, your image is more about the mood.

96 Jun 23 Comment The thing I appreciate most about this image is that it is a simple, ordinary scene, one that I would pass by without a second glance. Your shot makes me stop and say, "Oh, that's interesting". Nicely seen, Haru.
The reflected tree trucks lead to the frame's lower right corner. This gives your photo a nice graphic flow. Also, the blue under the warm tones above is a nice touch as well.
The original is too busy for my taste. Your selected image is simple and does not overwhelm the viewer.
I would keep the twiggs.

96 Jun 23 Comment Hi Robert, I always look forward to your next submission. This one does not disappoint. Your B&W render is perfectly fine. I would not be bashful about going further with your monochrome experimentations. I too struggle with B&W but when you hit it right, it is very rewarding.
I'm a big sucker for layered hills and mountains. I feel that you did well with how you presented this image.
Your image makes me want more. This is good. As a principal in theater, or stage performance, you want your audience to want more. You don't want to give up too much. This keeps us looking.
I see you exhibited restraint in not pumping up the contrast, especially beyond the trees. I admire your technique as I might have made that part of the scene more rich. But you held back appropriately.
From the little I've seen of your Rainier series, you have used soft colors and tones and subtle feature that I feel are very appealing. Very nicely done!

96 Jun 23 Reply Bob, my titles, and for that matter, my images, often have a musical influence. Thank you for noticing this. However, you have made too much of this month's title. I say this with all respect as I appreciate your desire to research things that you wonder about. Your curiosity is admirable.
In actuality, as an artist, I pay particular attention to the world within my small sphere and look for associations. Don't put a lot of attention in my titles as they don't really relate to anything other than the moment that it occured to me.

96 Jun 23 Comment Hello Ye, very eye catching picture. It causes me to stop and look at the details. The first thing that catches my attention is the colors. Keeping a viewer engaged in a photo is a good thing. Looking deeper, I am pleasantly struck with the concept of your composition where you use a lot of vertical lines juxtaposed to horizontal lines. This is a tricky feat because the viewers eyes go to each of those intersections. Normally this would make a very busy image. But, your photo manages to accomplish the opposite. It works. The structure on the right offsets any visual monotony that might exist otherwise.
Be careful with overusing your enhancement sliders such as Structure, Clarity, etc. They tend to create ghosting.
This is a lovely picture that tells a story about fun water activity.

96 Jun 23 Comment Hello Bob, the clouds in your photo are quite nice. However, I like the entire picture as shown in your original much better.
There is always a relationship between clouds and mountains. The orographic effect produced by how mountains affect wind currents often creates compelling drama in the sky. By cutting out most of the mountain, in my opinion, that relationship is broken. The composition, thus feels incomplete.
I very much like the interesting ridges and color in the original. My eyes want to spend time exploring all the fun detail. The pointed peaks are also interesting to look at. The cropped B&W has a strong emphasis on the sky which pulls my eyes away from the mountain peaks. Additionally, the B&W rendering here gives the mountains a flat look.
To sum it up, I feel the main show in your photo is the nicely colored and detained mountains. The sky is a supporting element. I would go back to your original and show the viewer what you were actually seeing when you made this capture.
