96 Apr 23 Reply Good comments, especially about a deeper philosophical discussion. I also like your suggestion about the green flare. I have never been comfortable with it but didn't have any ideas on making it work. Thanks! Apr 24th
96 Apr 23 Reply Cheryl, I love this new attachment. It's simple and the colors create a nice, calming mood. Apr 19th
96 Apr 23 Reply Hi Cheryl, Thank you for your thoughtful comments and for taking the time to add the sunrays and remove the sun flair. I'm happy that you got the ominous feel of the photo. In my initial processing I removed the sun flair but felt that it added something that I couldn't quite define so I brought it back. How you in particular review images is a big help. Apr 18th
96 Apr 23 Comment Hello Cheryl, I was afraid that you weren't submitting an image this month. I always look forward to what you have to share.
The moon is not too bright. The detail is shown quite nice, and its position is appropriate. I do think it looks a little large, though. Despite it being close to the horizon, it feels somewhat out of proportion.
I'm curious as to why you chose a vertical aspect ratio as opposed to a horizontal as shown in your "Original" (?) Personally, I prefer the horizontal version. It feels more natural and less cramped. I also prefer the color tone shown in your original. The main image is a little strong in the magenta and red colors. I see that you are aiming towards a night scene. If that is correct, I would suggest you apply a cool blue tone.
Thank you for sharing this image.

96 Apr 23 Reply Thanks, Bob. I used a long lense with a wide open aperture so everything in the foreground were extremely out of focus. Apr 16th
96 Apr 23 Reply Thank you very much, Gloria. I appreciate your honesty in saying what you feel when you look at the image. It helps to see through someone else's eyes and understand how an image is perceived. Apr 12th
96 Apr 23 Reply Thanks for your positive reply, Bob. I'm afraid I didn't provide much feedback, just observations. Image review and critique is very challenging for me. Apr 8th
96 Apr 23 Comment Hey Robert! Okay, there's a lot here, both within the photo and the description.
I try my best to not find myself in your situation where I don't scout a location before a pre-sunrise photo session. Your description put an exclamation point on that rule. Although you don't say it, it reads between the lines that you feel your image was perhaps not as good as it could have been otherwise. It's a pleasing photograph, but in my humble opinion, not something that I would give much attention. I don't mean how it is presented by being less heavy handed. For one thing, you took the shot at Reflection Lake near the parking area where hundreds of thousands of photographs have been taken. There's not much originality that can be squeezed out of that spot. A friend once said, "if you enter a photo of a flower, it better be way different than all the millions of flowers photographed if you want it to be noticed."
A couple suggestions: I would warm it up some, then apply a gradient over the sky. Then enhance that strip of light on the trees. These would keep the subtle flavor but give your image a little extra.

96 Apr 23 Comment Hey there Bob, I like the warmth that's present in this image. I also appreciate that the processing is not harsh and stylized like many of your previously submitted images. This shows that you have diversity in your image making style.
The image feels as if there was not a lot of room to maneuver when making your capture? It seems as if there's much more there that can contribute to your photo. I say this because I would expect that you would have opened your frame more and positioned your camera so there were more to see. A nice effect is where the tree branches on the left point to the center cross. But the trees in the background, on the right half of your frame take away from the cross which is obviously your center of interest. This is where separation between the cross and those trees would make a big difference. Lightening the cross a bit might help. Also, I don't get much view of the serene valley you refer to.
These are challenging images to make - assuming this is a limited space to work with. The scene has a lot of nice potential. Did you take other shots from different positions?
I would be interested in knowing if I'm right and what others say.

96 Apr 23 Comment Hi Haru, I would have lowered the camera so the hanging branch was raised up more than where it is now. This way, the branch would be in the center where it wouldn't conflict with the busier ice detail. The white ice or snow against the flat background has a 3D-like effect. Apr 7th
96 Apr 23 Comment Hello Gloria, I often don't read the descriptions, however, yours happened to catch my attention. I love how you used photography as self expression. It's important to our mental health, and also, it makes better images.
Your lighting and exposure is perfect. The close, right side statue helps provide a 3D look. I wonder if that effect would be enhanced if it were out of focus using a wider aperture (?) Your colors work very well together which might portray that visual solace. The reflector you refer to I assume is the bright light in the center of the frame. I would recommend cloning it out. It pulls my eyes to it. I would consider doing the same with the unlit light further to the right.
Your camera might have shown the picture as being level, but optically, it feels like it's leaning towards the left.
You succeeded well in reflecting your mood with this photo. Thank you for sharing your personal story.
