Hey Bob, I think that Cheryl has the right idea. The problem is all the background clutter. Playing with the squares as Cheryl did pulls my eyes away from the background. Darkening the background helps a lot. Perhaps you might try blackening the background (?) Here is another interpretation. |

To me, photographic images are like music. Some music calls for our attention, requiring us to listen closely. Other music lingers uncommittedly in the background. It's nice, but we aren't required to give it our undivided attention.
Your image, Haru, reminds of this analogy. There's no strong interest point that screams for my attention. There's often too much talk about how a good image MUST have an interest point. I don't believe that.
Your September photo proves that well. As said many times above, it's a calming image that is soft and tranquil that doesn't scream at me.
I, personally would like to see a little more separation between the islands. However, the fog helps.
Printed and placed on a wall would be like the music that's there but is not trying too hard to dominate my attention. |

There's a lot of truth to Galen Rowell's famous saying, "f/8 and Be There". At least three of my friends were there independent of each other who got essentially the same shot. Nice going!
To my eyes, the image does not look too bright. I feel that it lacks a little drama, though. But this is more my personal view as I like to see a degree of conflict in visual art. Consider cropping up from the bottom, just under the large rock at the base of that first tree line. The mountain has very interesting detail, and of course the lenticular cloud is the star of the show. Everything below the tree line is a distraction.
Great capture! |

Hi Gloria, despite the vanishing rainbow, it's a terrific shot. To state the obvious, the bright sail is what makes the photo for me. I would like to see separation between the boats in the center. Being such a quickly captured shot while sick, I commend you for how well you did. I would suggest you try to clone out the back boat.
As for the vanishing rainbow. I don't think you can make much out of what's barely there. My only thought would be to add a rainbow in from another shot - similar to sky replacement.
Regardless, it's a nice shot. |

Hello Cheryl, I absolutely love B&W architectural photography. You created a nice effect with the organic, soft, long exposure clouds over the hard geometric structure. It's made all the better by being presented in a B&W form.
I admire your photographic diversity. |

Hi Haru, thank you for your honest critique. I very much appreciate it. As for your crop, at first I wasn't sure if I liked it, but after a couple more views, I like it better. It tells the story differently, but not in a negative way. |
