Hey there Ed, yes it is an engaging image with the people. It connects me to the scene. Very well exposed and processed. Nice work! |

Hey Paul, Nice shot! Very well processed too. The fallen tree on the left works perfectly in tying your composition together. Nice going. |

Thank you, Cheryl. I appreciate your observations and comments. I never considered the sky as being too dark. But, now I'll take a closer look. As for the rocks, that was a tough decision. To me the image was more about the sky, reflection and shape of the rocks. I felt just a small amount of detail was all I needed. Otherwise, my thinking at the time of processing, was that I didn't want the viewer to dwell on the rocks - only the shapes.
Now to my titles: I like to come up with randum, almost unrelated titles to poke fun at the need to have a title. Some people say a good title is "The cherry on top a good image". Frankly, I have a hard time thinking up fitting titles. Instead, when I hear interesting phrases, I often use them. I do, however appreciate Bob's interpretation. |

Hey Bob, I like Robert's rendition - especially converted to B&W. I think it hones in on the story you're trying to tell.
Compositionally, to my eyes, the half circle was a good choice in how you framed the shot.
Viewing through this platform, the image is very blurry and pixelated. Was it radically cropped? Or, is it motion blur from camera shake? Do you have the opportunity to go back and retake the shot?
I'm glad you see this as a good memory of Yellowstone. It's a fun place to visit and photograph. If you ever get the chance to go there in the winter, you will be treated to an even greater wonderland. |

Hello Gloria, going back several times to a location is definitely the way to get the capture you are looking for. I hope you get it because a nice sunset or sunrise will make an absolutely terrific shot. In my mind, it's always good to take test shots, even when the conditions are not optimal. This way, you'll understand the scene better and you will know exactly what composition you want.
If the water is choppy, I suggest you use a long exposure to enhance the reflection of the boats and monument. |

Hi Cheryl, your photography always blows me away. You have such an ability to capture these expansive scenes with great impact but without making them look like postcards.
I can see why this was so fun to photography. That breaking ice is quite thrilling. It is very busy, though. It carries a lot a visual conflict. I think I would have personally preferred no ice and a long exposure where I could see those mountains reflected in the water. This would hold the peaceful feeling that I see everywhere else.
There's been some talk about your adding a different sky. My own opinion is that I don't care, as long as it's done well enough that I don't notice it. On that note, I would suggest you sample the color of the clouds and paint a small bit on the areas of ice directly below the clouds. I think this would make your sky replacement more convincing. |

Hey Robert, I personally think this is a great image, one that I would have been proud to take. I particularly enjoy how my eyes travel from the water washing over the rocks in the lower part of the frame then move up to those dazzling fire streaks at the upper right side. Of course the image is made dynamic by the powerful orange colors dominating the scene. The upper dark corners help hold my eyes in the frame.
You talked about your processing struggles. I hope that when viewed in full resolution, your image comes out as well as it looks here. Nicely done! |

Hey there Haru, interesting image. Your processing is done expertly. Your greens and yellow/oranges work well.
It's a busy image. I would have preferred you captured the scene from that front row of islands. The small island as a center point with the mountains in the background would have made a very nice image. Unless you had a kayak, I realize that vantage point would probably have been impossible. |
