96 Aug 21 Reply Gosh, that changes your scene dramatically. If it's the mood you were looking for, keep it. Aug 23rd
96 Aug 21 Reply Thank you, Emily, for your kind words. You will love Luminar 4. In my opinion, it's not quite as good as NIK, but very close. Be careful not to go too far in your processing. Take breaks away from your screen so you don't get pixel blindness. Aug 23rd
96 Aug 21 Reply Hi Cheryl; yes, I often struggle with where to put the horizon. I often shoot it various ways so I can have a choice when I'm looking at it on a large computer screen.
The birds are trick in their placement. I went back and forth with various versions and one seemed to have the same effect as the next.
I was just notified that this picture got first place and Best of Show at our Idaho State Fair photography contest. It's so difficult for me to determine what photos of mine are good or not.

96 Aug 21 Reply Thank you, Regine and thanks for visiting our beloved group. I appreciate your comments. With regard to capturing the Milky Way, unfortunately, these set of rocks are positioned West Northwest. Aug 23rd

96 Aug 21 Comment Robert said it perfectly in his last sentence: "Another beautiful image Cheryl". You travel to some of the worlds most extraordinary place. You really have the talent to capture these places so wonderfully.
Although a minor suggestion, try cropping your sky down a bit. To my eyes, that much sky is not needed. This will move your horizon line to the upper third. I'm not a big proponent of the rule of thirds. However, my thinking is that putting less emphasis on an unnecessary part of the sky allows the viewer's eyes to freely explore the underwater foreground detail without the weight of the sky holding the eye back. Your color tones are very appealing. I don't think cropping some sky out will take away from that.
I agree with Robert about the detail in the water foreground. It brings supporting visual interest. I wouldn't reduce the clarity at all. And, to echo Robert one last time, definaley fix the "light border".
You produce better than terrific images, Cheryl. I'm always looking forward to what you'll have next.

96 Aug 21 Comment There you go again, Emily. You have taken another one of those signature vortex-tunnel shots that brings my eyes curiously into the deep, unseen road. Please don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching how you see. You produce peaceful, uncomplicated images.
In particular, my eyes are attracted to the contours in the gravel road. It's a nice touch of visual interests.
For fun, to provide more depth to the trees, dapple the trees with touches of light. As an experiment, try adding subtle amounts of apposite color dabs on the trees. Do it on a separate layer in case this doesn't work.

96 Aug 21 Comment Hey Robert, your adventure writing is fun to read. I have spent a lot of time in the Canyon area of Southern Utah. I absolutely love it there; however, I have never found the opportunity to go to The Zebra Canyon. It's always been flooded.
One of the elements that makes this canyon so attractive is the colors. Without trying to impose my own vision on your photo, I would like to see the color punched up more than how it's presented here.
To my eyes, the composition is perfect. I love how you captured the interlaced columns. The opposing walls reflect the bounced light which shows off their complementary colors well. However, it feels a little flat to me. If those colors could pop more with some kind of shine, I think you'll wow your viewers. NIK's Tonal Contrast sometimes provides this effect nicely. Perhaps deepen the shadows and enhance the highlights. This might provide the shine I'm looking for.
You have a well shot image and with just a little easy PS work, you will have a terrific photo.

96 Aug 21 Comment Hey there Bob, I really love seeing imagemaking go beyond the literal. Stepping outside of what's real and following your creative thoughts is a thrill to see.
Robert's rendition made it more crisp and less saturated - which is an appropriate interpretation. I personally like the bold feel that your image has. The blue and dominate orange, as complementary colors, work well - especially for what it is. The brilliant night sky adds a fantasy look that I could easily see on the cover of a fantasy novel. My only criticism - though quite minor - would be to eliminate the two strongly lit street lights. Other than that, to my eyes, it's a terrific image.

96 Aug 21 Reply Thank you, Robert. It's fun to talk about these subjects. I love hearing how other people think. It often makes a spirited conversation. Someday, we'll get a chance to chat about these things over a beer. Aug 9th
96 Aug 21 Comment Hi Claudia, welcome to Group 96. I hope you will feel comfortable with the group where you are able to seek help with a photo and feel like you're getting honest input.
At first view, I thought you had applied a texture to your image. But as I see from your Original and Original 2, I understand what you are trying. I admire how you are using photography as a tool for telling a story. That is a tough challenge.
I like Robert's advise in leaving the fense heavy around the perimeter. If one of your Originals aligns with the main image you presented, perhaps you could composite one over the other and blend it in for the effect Robert described.
After input from the other members, I would be interested in seeing what you come up with.
