Sometimes great photos are taken in times and places unexpectedly. For me, when I go out to photograph, that's my sole purpose. No distractions so I can put my head completely into the shot. This allows me to study the scene, take a shot, readjust to clear the visual clutter and define what I'm capturing.
I enjoy the light in your photo, particularly the sky and mountains. The color tones and exposure work well. Your focus feels sharp.
The trees and reflection feel a bit over processed to me - perhaps HDR or Detail Extractor - it's hard to tell. But with that comes an image where I feel you need some deeper darks. The mountains are generally obstructed by the trees so I'm either left with the sky or the reflection. My eyes don't know where to settle. With the water bank cutting through the center of the scene, my eyes bounce back and forth from the sky to the reflection.
There is potential in this location. I would go back and try to simplify your composition. Start wide. Then come in for a mid-shot, then with a longer lense look for the intimate things. Take your time and let the shot come to you. |

Hi Ed, I apologize for the late review. Your photos do such a nice job of showing off the Pacific Northwest. This one included. Since you mentioned sharpness, I'll start there. It feels acceptable on this platform. It's possible that you're low shutter speed is responsible for the slight soft look do to the windy conditions. However, I agree with you that the softness adds to the scene. Your colors are pleasing with the calming greens and the subtle blue tones. As a whole, the composition and subject are acceptable. Speaking for myself, I would like to see more drama and intrigue to capture my interest. |

Unique indeed. The shaft of light along with the dramatic vignetting produced a striking image, Jerry. It's fun to take a scene that nature provides and shine it up nicely. You have a good eye in choosing to capture a scene with opposite colors - the red against the greens. I also appreciate the circular motion in the photo. It twirls around from lower left. My eyes follow upward and then the circle follows the green weed then comes in closer to the center. Brilliant. |

Hi Darcy, what a nice photo. I bet the experience of being there was extraordinary. I feel your composition is perfect. There's some discussion about the lower area being dark. I'm not sure if that's really a problem. To my eyes, it fits the scene. If you would like to bring up the shadows, I would follow Paul's suggestion and bring up the Shadow slider and brush it in so the entire image is not affected. Be careful not to bring the shadows up too much. You will introduce noise. |

Hi Jean, you have a very good eye for seeing nice landscapes. I always enjoy your unique perspective of framing. However, I do agree with Jerry about taking another shot of the left. the image feels incomplete on the left side. I completely understand the limitation of a non-photographer tour. But for future reference, when you're on your own, choose your time according to the best light. Another capture of the left side taken during the golden or blue hour would have made a terrific photo. |

Hi Paul, one of my favorite images that you've shown to our group. You made everything work with this capture. As Michael pointed out, the hay tedder is brilliantly place in the foreground to compliment the story. It's mostly a monochrome with a slight green tint - perfect. |
