We are inundated with sunsets this month!
This is a lovely image, Stanley. You have caught the sun at just the right moment when it reflects off the rice terraces.
The image has great depth to it. There is a little foliage in the foreground, then the large rice terrace and the valley leads the eye past the ridges and up towards the sun. You have managed to get a star burst from the sun and it is not blown out.
Well done

Karen, you have taken this image at just the right time of day, when the sun is low enough to throw some light into the caves as well as the rock face.
I love the warm glow off the rocks around the caves. It is warm and inviting and blends in nicely with the green foliage of the trees.
The sky is bland, so I would chop it out!
Well done.

oooooh what an interesting take on a beautiful bridge!
I would have been happy with your original image, but you have taken it a step further and created a wonderful abstract image. I am always amazed at the creativity and artistry of right brain thinkers. Well done!
I love the thin sloping lines of the cables all meeting at the solid concrete tower which is nicely located on the "third" line.
Well done, Shirley. This is a superb image! |

Piers, this is a lovely sunset. I like the clouds. Many of us might be disappointed that there was very little "colour" in them, but you have warmed the image in post processing and the eye is drawn to the sun and the small amount of golden colour around it. I think this is a great effect that is amplified by the reflection on the water.
At first I didn't notice the fisherman, but now that I see him, he adds a very subtle human element and some scale to the scene.
Well done, this would look great as a pring on the wall! |

This is a great capture. Your timing was spot on to catch the setting sun behind the bubble. The sun lies nicely on the intersection of two "thirds" lines.
I can see why you experimented with the silhouette. It certainly adds some drama to the image and it becomes a work of art. In my mind, there is some confusion with the two unexplained "horns" coming from the lad's forehead.
I have had a play with your original image, and although it lacks the drama of your silhouette, I think it presents an alternative with more of a story than a work of art |

Hi Julie. This is a great image, but to my untrained eye, I make the following comments.
Firstly, competition judges can be a "fickle" lot. A top image to one judge can be an absolute failure to another. It is all subjective!
Secondly, if it was in the "Nature" section of a FIAP competition, a judge might believe that the image has had a dark vignette applied to it, which is not allowed under FIAP competition rules.
We have the benefit of seeing your original image alongside the "presented" image. The "presented" image seems to be under exposed in the top left and bottom right corners! Maybe a vignette??
Thirdly, competition judges seem to like bugs and bees on or near flowers! Unfortunately your image has neither.
Just my thoughts!

Tom, thank you for this insight into the Tibetan Buddhist religion.
I love the composition and the colours in your image. In particular I like the "modern day" fellow in the foreground with his mobile phone to his ear and nearby the lady in traditional costume with her prayer wheel. I guess each are communicating with their own deities!
I don't know if the starburst from the sun was intentional or not, but it certainly adds some brightness to the scene which is in full shadow.
Well done

Gerhard, this is a bright roadside market with vibrant colours and an inviting feeling about it compared to the sterile shops in the background.
Maybe cropping out some of the sky and the roadway in the foreground would throw the emphasis more on the market stalls while retaining the integrity of your original image.
Either way, this is an interesting photo of real life.
Well done!

Cisco, I like the mono version that you have chosen.
Your image has foreground, middle ground and background and the eye tends to fall on the two "real" people in the centre.
The image conveys a feeling of clutter, noise and confusion all of which I have experienced in Asian markets.
A very expressive image.
It is tack sharp and nicely exposed.
Well done!

Marevi, this is a great image and I like the cropping you have chosen. The image now has 5 boys (apparently odd numbers are good in photos) and I love the interaction between the two lads in the foreground.
One has to wonder if all that rain in Ethiopia is a novelty for these kids. I have always imagined Ethiopia to be very dry and drought strickened.
Keep these images coming, please!

An interesting photo Trey! At first glance I was horrified to see a right hand drive vehicle, like we have here in Australia, driving on the wrong side of the road. The age of the car makes it obvious that this is a collector's item and is therefore forgiven for this misdemeanour! *laughs*
I think the car is strong enough in the image to go with the colour version. It also shows more of the environment.
