Thanks Julie. I think he knows that the female is the more deadly of the species and is keeping his guard up! |

Thanks Tom. These two people were certainly a very "intense" couple

Stanley, just by looking at your image I can almost smell those wonderful fragrances around Guilin. My wife and I visited Guilin in 1995 (I am showing my advanced age now) and we had an enjoyable trip down the Li River.
I have just had a look at my old photo album and none of my images come close to the quality and interest of the image you have presented here. I love the colours and I love the lady in her matching dress looking out of the window.
Well done.

Well done Piers. You have taken a "snapshot" inside a distillery and with some excellent post processing work you have turned it into a wonderful image.
I like the black and white version, it is nicely lit and it is tack sharp.
The white elliptical "halo" over the still reminds me of stick figure on the front covers of "The Saint" novels.
A great image.

A lovely image, Jim. I like your rework where you have lightened the shadows on his legs.
Photographing children is always "problematic" and you did the right thing by seeking out the parents.
While on a trip to Cuba a few years ago, I was asked why I was reluctant to photograph the children. I explained the "voyeur" thing in our culture. My Cuban host laughed and said the Cubans loved "foreigners" taking photos of the kids out in the streets.
Such is our loss!

Karen, this is a fascinating image. The subject is simple and yet the photographic technique has added an "artlike" atmosphere to the image.
ICM is not widely practiced here and your image has given me something to go our and try.
Thank you.
p.s. Photographic conventions are wonderful places to learn and exchange ideas, but I will not be visiting the USA in the foreseeable future!

Hi Shirley,
I agree with Jim's comment that the lighting is very flat. Maybe have a look at the image as a mono image and crop off a bit on both sides.

Thanks for your comments, Trey. Is this what you are suggesting regarding the dodging and burning? |

Tom this is an interesting photo. I like the leading lines of the tram tracks and the framing by the vertical poles. These factors all draw my eye towards the brightly lit building and then upwards to the chapel on top of the hill. I like the suggestion of a "net" created by the overhead wires, they give the impression of holding the image together, if that was your intention.
I am in two minds about the bright signs on the left hand side of the image. Compositionally, one might say that they should be cropped out, but as far as the story goes, the arrow sends my eye back into the main image and to the two motorcyclists in the foreground.
An interesting suburban scene. Well done.

Gerhard this is a lovely, warm and quite busy image with a profusion of colours. Have you considered the monochrome alternative. A monochrome version tends to isolate the people from the background and gives the image a little more impact and creates a natural vignette.
A great street photo and well done.

Trey, This is a great image that captures the preparation for Halloween.
When I first compared the final image to the original image, I was struck by the blue cast in the processed image. It then dawned on me, that the key might lie in the "Blue skies" sign in the top corner.
My eye is drawn to the brightest part of the image which is the reflection in the glass door and it tends to overwhelm the little girls, and their mother or relative doing the finishing touches.
I wonder if they were brightened/lightened a little so that they became more prominent players in this story.
