Shirley, your photograph captures both the natural wonder of the aurora and the rugged terrestrial landscape below, creating a striking composition between the ethereal lights in the sky and the solid earth below. The stars are also visible in the darker portions of the sky, adding another layer of natural beauty to the scene. I love the vibrant colours!
Another great image, well done |

Tor, this is a striking black and white photograph of the subject in traditional regalia. You have captured them in profile, wearing an impressive feathered headdress with black and white feathers.
The composition is powerful, with the subject photographed against a light background which creates a strong contrast and emphasizes the details of their clothes and facial features. This image captures a sense of dignity, tradition, and cultural pride, which by your image title, "Honour and Pride," you have succeeded in doing. Well done.

A beautiful image, Piers.
What is particularly striking about this image is the lighting and composition. The bright white feathers are captured in great detail, and each individual feather in the wings can be seen. I love the reflection of the bird's legs in the water below, and the background is soft, misty `that makes the white bird stand out dramatically. The shoreline visible at the bottom of the frame provides a nice grounding element to the otherwise ethereal scene. Well done |

Thanks Karen. Although I agree with you that the second bird's leg makes the centre of the image look a little untidy, I am loathe to remove it. I was asked on one occassion a few months ago to send the original "camera raw file" of this iamge to the judges of a Nature competition for scrutiny.
PSA and FIAP "Nature" salons do not allow any manipulation of the subject matter.
Luckily they were satisfied the image had not been manipulated and it was accepted. |
