2 Jan 24 Reply Thanks Jim. Alan is/was an interesting character and a photographic treasure.

2 Jan 24 Reply Thank you, Keith. I have added a little more to the right hand side of the image as per Shirley's suggestion. The edited image is above in the reply to Shirley. If I add any more to the right hand side the head is too far off centre and image becomes unbalanced.
The monochrome version was mainly a test, and like you, I prefer the colour version

2 Jan 24 Comment An interesting image and history, Karen. While the Spanish were building this, the Europeans would have to wait another 200 years before they settled here, in Australia!
As the others have already suggested, I would try and lighten the tower, the trees and the far end of the wall.
I don't quite understand why the light isn't already shining on these parts of the scene. Did you take any images with the sun at a slighty different angle?

2 Jan 24 Comment Shirley I like the image and I agree with all the other comments above ..
Maybe isolate the bird in Lightroom and lift the "shadows" to lighten all the dark feathers. The eye then becomes obvious.
Sharpening is a problem as there is a white halo beginning to appear on either side of the diagonal branch

2 Jan 24 Comment You have done well with this image, Piers.
The rooster is "tack sharp" and I like what you have done in post production with the tyres.

2 Jan 24 Comment Well seen Jim.
I like the image, but the tree trunk on the left hand side keeps dragging my attention away from the centre of the image. You have lovely leading lines going into the centre of the image but there is nothing in the centre to hold my attention.
Maybe clone the "rogue" tree trunk out and use a radial filter to lighten the centre of the image. This might tease some detail out of the palms as Terri suggested.

2 Jan 24 Reply Thank you Piers. I have followed Shirley's suggestion of adding a little to the right hand side. Jan 7th
2 Jan 24 Reply Thank you Terri. I tried darkening the hand as you suggested, but it very quickly looked as though he had put that hand in a bucket of grease, so I gave that idea away. I think I have "messed" with the colours so much that any changes now are counter productive.
It was a good thought

2 Jan 24 Reply I have added a little to the right hand side of the image as you suggested. Yep. I think that improves it. Thank you for the suggestion Shirley.
I gave Alan a print sometime ago, and it was as if he had forgotten that I had taken the photo. Rather sad. We haven't seen him since last winter and have lost touch with him.

2 Jan 24 Comment Welcome to the group, Tor.

I love this image and your choice to show it in Black and White works well.
I like the geese silhouetted against the white mist. It is almost like an artist's signature on a painting. It fills in that white space beautifully.

2 Jan 24 Comment Great shot Terri. I like the image and your post production treatment. Don't touch a thing.
Well done
