Hi Carrie,
Thank you for your kind comments. Ervin Janek was good enough to share this technique with me and I know he would be thrilled to know that I have been able to pass it on to someone else. Good luck with your "creative" journey. |

I know your frustration at trying to photograph some of the interiors of some of these old buildings.
I think you have done as much as you can with the post processing.
It is not always possible, but maybe they would have let you in after dark so that bright light from the window was not so dominant.
Time constraint is always one of the banes of the traveler/photographer. You have to take the shot when you can during a short visit. It is always better to have a shot like this, rather than having no shot at all.
Well done and I love your image. |

I like this image, Shirley. It has a slight surreal feel about it. You have taken a simple snap shot and turned it into a great image.
I like the drop in sunset sky, however it probably needs some work on the masking within the trees. Maybe just lightly clone in some of the sunset colours into the grey/blue areas between the boughs of the background trees.
Well done, I am sure it will do well for you as a competition image. |

Another great image, Piers.
It is sharp and I like your lightroom adjustments. In particular I like the complimentary colours and the muted, soft background. It compliments the soft, fragile creature.
Reversing the image works too.
Well done, this is a very nice nature image. |

A Black & White version of Original 2!
The options with this set of images seems endless. |

What an interesting place to take photos. I love the colours and the lines.
I like the panographic view, but this is a "busy" image and the eye wanders. That is the nature of this part of the Museum.
Maybe try cropping out some of the righthand side of the image and darkening the remaining righthand side using a graduated filter, leaving the hanging glass panels.
The point of focus now becomes the very bright sunlit area in the centre of the image.
This is a great series of images.
Just another thought:- To reduce the "business", have a look at the images in Black & White. There might be some interesting tonal variations and the eye might concentrate on the lines rather than the colours.
Just a thought

Lance, unlike you I do not belong to four Discussion Groups. I belong to one, a "general" group, which is probably best suited to the average club photographer; which I am.
I am disappointed that you, as a "PSA B&W Photography Director and PSA South Atlantic Area Membership Director" seem to be publicly trying to censor and destroy the creativity of someones work that is put up for discussion in this room.
Rather than giving constructive comment on the image up for discussion you seem to prefer to challenge the fact that it should not have been published at all, simply because it is in a "General" room. This is censorship more than likely will dissuade members from being creative. Do you have a problem with members of this Group putting up images of flowers for discussion or do you believe they should members of the "flowers" discussion group? I hope not!
Had you bothered to look at the images I have posted the last year or so you would have discovered that I do not regularly post images which are "in fact part of a sub-genre within the scope of hybrids." (Whatever that means)
This is part of a journey of discovery for me, and if and when I decide to go on with this genre I will apply to join a "creative" group. In the meantime I am disappointed that you, a member of the PSA with your standing would take such a PUBLIC stand against someone's venture into creativity in a "GENERAL" discussion group.

Thank you for your comments, Lance.
This is part of my photographic journey of discovery and so I regard it as being "general" and it lies in the only Discussion Group to which I belong |

Hi Julie.
"Caring" is a great Nature image and I agree with Mike's suggestion. Crop it tightly to emphasize the story, but be very careful with any post processing that might preclude it from a PSA or FIAP Nature exhibitions. |
