2 Sep 20 Reply Thank you, Ian. I wish more of my portraits turned out as well as this one did. Sep 11th
2 Sep 20 Comment Thanks Piers. I think the de-saturation works in this case and I am really happy with the result. Sep 9th
2 Sep 20 Reply Thanks Brenda. This is the first time I have done such a tight crop and I was pleasantly surprised at the result. Sep 9th
2 Sep 20 Reply I agree with you Harry. He doesn't look like your typical Maori (whatever that might be ... I guess facial tattoos etc.) and I was a little surprised to discover his heritage when I "googled" him. ... thanks for your kind comments. Sep 9th
2 Sep 20 Reply Thanks Shirley. I might become a digital ophthalmologist after the success of that experiment. Sep 9th
2 Sep 20 Comment This is a lovely image. I have tried taking photos of hummingbirds and it is very, very difficult. So you have done very well to capture these two.
I thought I might take your image and lighten the birds a little. But in the process of pushing the "curves" line upwards, the image brightened and that wonderful bird feeder became the centre of my focus. So I stopped. Now I think the two darker birds support the ornate bird-feeder which becomes the focus of the image.

2 Sep 20 Comment I agree with all the comments already made. This is an excellent image. Well done Sep 9th
2 Sep 20 Comment A wonderful action photo. However my eye is drawn immediately drawn to the fellow on the left in the pink shirt. Maybe tone that down and lighten the torso and face of the rider. Sep 9th
2 Sep 20 Comment A very nice landscape, Piers. You have sharp foreground, middle ground and background which is to be expected at f/13.
I like your treatment of the image, especially the removal of the building.
Maybe crop the top of the image so that the mountain on the left hand side moves into the top left hand side corner. That top strip of cloud adds little to the image.
There is some sunlight on the hills on the right hand side of the image. So it would be believable to paint a little light on the slopes of the central hill and also on the rocks on the left hand side cliff face.
This may not work but it is worth a try. That way the top left of the image would have some high lights and the eye is drawn further into the image. ..and maybe slightly de-saturate the foreground.

2 Sep 20 Comment A great nature/wildlife image, Harry. I agree with Karen and Shirley that the rocks in the background could be darkened a little.
I think Mr Hippo needs to visit an orthodontist.
