I used a Canon 100-400 lens. Produces great sharpness. There is much to see at the Preserve. Go on "Black Point" drive early and late in day. I did not do much driving at mid-day. Besides "Black Point", you can also drive on the banks of wet areas. See main office for a map. The scrub jays are in an area by themselves. The office will mark the trail for you on your map. Winter (December - March) is the best time to go. Too hot most other months. We stayed overnight in order to drive the roads near sunrise and sunset. We stayed at a hotel (Hampton Inn, there is also another one there) at I-95 and one exit south of the exit to Merritt Island. The Preserve is a great place to see many kinds of ducks and wading birds. Have fun! |

Good that you are willing to try something different Charlie--photo stacking. Colors are beautiful as they are so often with orchids. When viewing orchids, they are usually seen with the colorful lip at the bottom of a photo. By having yours to the left, I found viewing it difficult until I turned it slightly. Next time try blurring the background. It is distracting in this photo. Another option would be to put a circle around the orchid the crop out the rest. Keep trying. |

Beautiful Ray, very nicely done!!! This photo has all the pieces of a good photo--color, sharp, eyes open with a little light in them, even a stem on her left as an arch in the top, right quadrant. And what makes the photo is her looking to our right with a slight smile and tilt of the head inviting us to wonder what she sees, what is she thinking, what is there we don't see. Her long hair makes me think of Lady Godiva. Did this woman just get off a horse, get dressed and pose for you? |

Nice vignetting, very sharp thought out the photo, blurred background, eyes open, but the photo is emotionally flat. We don't have two horses rubbing together, horse is not eating, not rolling on the ground or something to indicate emotion/action. There is no story. |

The sky does a lot for this photo, as well as the birds and fishing poles. Since the person fishing is the subject, I would rather the black poles not appear in the photo. I know that would eliminate the sunburst, but they detract from the person fishing and, for me, become the subject. An earlier photo with the sun still below the horizon could contain the person fishing, birds and a pretty sky. Need to adjust the horizon. |
