Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Christian. I tend to shy away from toned monochrome, but I'll play around with your ideas to see what I think. As to the crop, the sky had little detail so I chose to minimize by moving to a 16x9 crop. I've been drawn to that aspect ratio quite a bit lately. |

While I have no opinion whatsoever about the naturalness of the gesture, I do like this image! I like the color one as well, but monochrome works really well here. I do concur with Peter and Jim about removing the diagonal bit and I like Jim's darkening of the rocks quite a bit. Well worth spending some time on this one. |

Jim,
I love the image as originally posted and I'm enjoying the updated versions as well. I really like what you did in moving the woman forward, but I think I prefer your original crop. I find the bunting draws my eye away from the main composition. |

Christian,
I'm always on the prowl for interesting doors, especially in Europe. I can see why this one caught your eye. While I agree that it would have been better to have the entire door, this still works well. Your processing does a terrific job of bringing out the different textures. |

Peter, I really like the minimalism of this image. You composition and processing is spot on. This would print beautifully. |

Exactly right, Melanie. It's a source of constant amazement at how differently we see the same scene. Thanks for your comments. |

Emil,
Nice peaceful scene well handled, though I do like Gary's crop quite a bit (I'm a bit of a squarehead when it comes to photography, I admit). Contrary to most of the comments, I find the contrast to be good as is. |

Beautiful abstract, Palli, but I wondered if it could benefit from a tighter crop and a bit of vignetting. I think my version emphasizes your "circle" more strongly, but see if you agree. |

Gary,
I like this a lot and concur with the others. Two suggestions: remove the Jame Blake sign above the trailer as it doesn't fit the overall mood in my opinion; and clean up the artifacts above the roofline. My eye keeps going to both of these things. |

Charles,
I don't love your end product, but I saw some real possibilities in your original. I took it into Photoshop and cropped and straightened it to what looked good to my eye. I then did a blue-red color swap and used a series of hue-saturation layers to manipulate the colors in what I thought was a pleasing subtlety. I liked it, but you may not. I enjoyed the opportunity to play with it. |

Jack,
Another beautiful BW IR image from Cambodia! The gate is fine. I would suggest opening up the shadows a small amount on the left side to create a bit more separation between the stones. Otherwise, the shadows look great. |

Arik,
I agree with the others about the border. I'm generally against these kinds of filmish borders on principle, so no surprise there. I do agree that adding a bit of blue to the sky adds interest to an otherwise well-composed and beautifully processed image. I would suggest selecting the highlights in the sky and brushing it in. |

Melanie,
I concur with the others. The contrast with the background really makes the image. you could darken the leaves to make them stand out more but that kind of processing has a tendency to make BW IR look too much like conventional IR and what's the fun of that? |

Thanks, guys, for the thoughts. I like Gary's separation from the sky - much stronger than my version. I think I do prefer keeping the path. |
