Nicely done, Jim. I like your cleanup and monochrome processing. Jim H's crop works well, too. |

Welcome to the group, Darlene. I love this image! It's beautifully composed and works very well in monochrome. My wife and I are heading to the Tetons in December so I'm always eager to see what others find there. |

Thanks, Jim. Color can be a real distraction at times. |

This is very interesting. At first, I wondered about the clouds, but then I saw them echoed in the stones in the chapel. It all works rather well in my opinion. |

This is absolutely wonderful, Peter. I love the composition and processing. This would look terrific as a print. |

Emil, Thanks for your thoughts as well. I guess I'm really starting to gravitate toward "big sky, small subject" kinds of images. I like your crop, but it's just not where my head is at these days. |

Thanks, Palli. I appreciate your insights. As with Gary's version, I like where you've gone with the sky but I find your barn too dark for my taste. Lots to think about, however. |

Thanks, Jack. I've done a revised version with a more contrasty sky, the barn more or less left alone, and a slight vignette. |

I love this image and your processing approach. Low key is just right here. My only suggestion is to touch up the bit of fringing in the upper left and top of the building. My technique for this is to use the clone stamp tool in Photoshop, set brush opacity to 80% and brush blend mode to darken. I make the brush very small and sample just along the edge of the fringing. It works pretty well in situations like this. Here's my version.

Nice landscape image that works great in IR. Well worth the effort of removing the structures. I'm especially drawn to that central clump of grasses with the broad blades. I agree with Gary that it feels a bit tilted to the right. |

Fun subject and image, Gary. I agree with keeping to a neutral tone, but that's my default in most monochrome. You should make a small print and give it to Vic! I bet he'd love it. |

For once, being late to commenting worked out for me as I see the about description. I have to say that it's not my taste in color, but I still find the image appealing to me. The composition is excellent. I pulled it into Photoshop, pulled up Hue/Saturation and played with the sliders a bit and found some different color combinations that worked for me but not necessarily for anyone else. Art is a subjective thing and you are doing art here. |

Great scene for IR. I had a bit of fun tweaking it in Photoshop. I used the perspective crop to straighten the leftmost hut a bit. I also cropped it a bit to better focus on those wonderful clouds. I used the Camera Raw filter to open up the shadows a bit and improve contrast. Finally, I added a bit of a vignette around the frame. |

You nailed the composition on this, Arik. I love the framing and contrast between the organic tree and the sculpted columns. Processing is excellent. I like the different tonal "zones" as I move through the frame (dark tree trunk, less dark steps, lighter building, white foliage). My only suggestion is to print it! |

As others have said, it's a very powerful photo that does the subject justice in how it shows their lives. I've found IR is a potent tool in the way it reveals a scene. I've taken mine to places like Manzanar and Auschwitz and have noticed how much more meaningful the IR shots were compared to conventional color.
Sorry about your camera troubles. My wife's primary camera has died twice this year, thankfully under warranty. She always had her backup body, but it was never the same. I hope you get your issues resolved quickly and effectively. |

Gary, thanks for your thoughtful comments. I like your sky treatment a great deal, but I'm not as fond of the dark barn. I think a combination of your sky and my barn might be good. I'll have to revisit it. |
