Thanks, Michael. Contrast is something I frequently get called out on and I'll take another look. This one just might show up at a future Print Night.

Very dramatic, lots of interest in this image. I think you were right to make this about the clouds. |

I love still life images like this. I really like your processing, but I'm not so sure about the crop. I took the original, did a real basic BW conversion and cropped it as a square, offsetting the candle to the left. I really wanted to preserve the candle's shadow and this allowed for that. |

I love this, Glyn. Great range of tones and contrasting shapes. Your crop is spot on as well. |

Great subject for monochrome, Michael. I like your version a lot, but decided to try increasing contrast between the brass and the red wax. I took the original into Photoshop and used a Black and White adjustment layer to brighten the reds and darken the yellows. Something different. |

I concur with the others, Emil. A great image of an interesting subject. IR is spot on for a subject like this. |

Fun image. It's great how IR can make an already interesting scene even more compelling. I also like Emil's tighter crop.

Very creative, Gary. You had a great idea and the skill to make it happen! I also don't love the truncated flag, but understand your thinking. |

Sounds like you live in a wonderful neighborhood, Charles. Much more inspiring than my little bedroom suburb. I love the composition and processing, but I found the pink way too subtle for my eye. I'd say either go full BW or be bolder in your use of color here. By the way, this would could become an interesting four (or maybe two) season series if you come back at different times of year. I'd love to see a winter version and maybe a fall version with leaves on the ground. |

Wonderful composition, Jack. I love the way the lily pads point toward the bottom of the frame. I agree with the others about the need for more contrast and I especially like Palli's version. It's well worth spending more time on it. |

I like this a lot, Arik, and would love to see a printed version on heavily textured paper or canvas. It would be very striking. No suggestions. |

I'm a little late to the party so it's been interesting to see what everyone else has to say about this image. Compositionally, it's terrific - much nicer than I got when I visited there a few years ago. I decided to play with the color a bit. I took the original, did a red-blue color swap and a series of hue/saturation adjustments as well as a bit of luminosity masking. I ended up with something a bit more subtle plus I included a blue sky. |
