Thanks, Jim. I think I'm coming around about dodging the man (he was an adult), although maybe a bit less than you did. As to the crop, I like how it makes the bike the central element of the image. Still, I like the boat. |

Terrific composition, Jim. It's a great subject, but your processing feels a bit heavy-handed to me. I took your color version into Photoshop, used the black and white adjustment tool to darken the yellows and blues, then dodged and burned selected areas. Perhaps my version is too "hospitable", but I'll offer it as an alternative take.
My wife and I were planning on heading out there in May, but that's looking increasingly unlikely. Hopefully some day soon. |

Terrific capture, Jim. While everyone else was probably grousing about missing the spectacular scenery (and it is spectacular, I've been on that train), you found the perfect moment and was ready with your camera. It's a great subject for monochrome.
As to your processing, I think this is a great example of when "less is more". I think you defeated your purposes by bringing back too much detail. I took your color version into Photoshop, used the black and white adjustment tool to tweak the train a bit, then darkened the overall image while brightening the engine a bit. I think it brings back some more of the "mystery". |

Great catch. The bird reminds me of "high-class" women in old movies wearing their fur coats. The only suggestion that comes to mind is possibly darkening the head a bit, but otherwise I like it. |

Nice "moment" with the horse. I would leave the ears in and brighten the eyes a bit. |

Fun image, but I concur with Jim and prefer his version. |
