82 May 24 Reply Night sky photography is something i love , however I stay in Mumbai , and to get anything clicked from mumbai or near mumbai is next to impossible. We dont even see any stars in the sky - thats the light pollution and smog we have in our city sky. So for me to get some stars in my camera , I need to travel min 100 kms out and find a dark sky area which will have minimal Horizon light pollution ( horizon light pollution is the light which is emitted by houses , steet lights vehicular light etc). Also New moon night is the best darkest sky available, with no Moon in sky to give any light. So stars are at thier brightest. So whenever I want to click Milkyway or any such images I plan well in advance my shots. Sometimes I do recce of the place just to be sure.

Also I use one App called Photopills, which shows in Augmented reality view , the position of the Milkyway , So i know which area of sky to point my camera lens.

I hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to ask if you need more information.

82 May 24 Comment Interesting and lovely image of stockings, the pattern is really nicely lit due to the sunlight. May 8th
82 May 24 Reply Thanks Laurie, Your monitor must be fine, some stars do have magenta hues as these colors appear in the long exposure of night sky, the colors we see are due to the light of star passing through some gases which are present near the stars. May 8th
82 May 24 Reply Thanks Andrew I shall revisit the image and see how I feel by decreasing the exposure for the ground.

82 May 24 Reply Shutter speed depends on your subject - if it is still then very low speed can be good ( so that camera will select higher aperture and lower ISO possible). If the subject is slow moving then ideally your shutter speed should be higher than 250 ( but if you are using telephoto lens say 200-600mm @600mm ) then the speed should be more than your focal length used for the shot , Say if you are shooting at 600mm, then you should shoot at 800 or higher.

If the subject is moving fast ( birds in flight, or fast moving car or bike etc ) , then shutter speed in excess of 2000 should be tried , then check the result and change accordingly.

this is my method.

also shutter speed depends on your wish to stop the image or to get the sense of motion in the image. if you need sense of motion then slower speeds will give you the desired output.

82 May 24 Comment Totally in Love with this image, it is brilliant work, And in my opinion nothing appears to be wrong with colors in this image, Also point to note is that , you were present there that day , I was not, so to me these colors are as real as they look here. I personally have tried my hand at editing in this, Though I havent changed much except reduce the overall Exposure.Attaching it here.

I love the contrasty images hence i have made this one as per my choice. Nothing wrong with your editing as well. After all its personal preferences.

82 May 24 Comment Agree with Keith, All said !! great moment captured.

I usually shoot on S- Mode , in my sony, where I can change the shutter speed , and the camera adjusts the rest. ( ISO is always on Auto). Noise if any can be handled later in Post Processing. These days many tools are available for it.
