The B&W is perfect - and I like the high key/contrasty rendition. In my opinion - the wide angle lens and upward view causes distortion vs. reality (Stephen is correct that your eyes also do this). Not all distortion is bad; in this image the distortion creates visual interest and emphasizes the scale of the subjects as they shrink into the distance. Very well done.
Do you think the two large cables distract from the image? Although removing the cables could be done - dealing with their reflection in the building on the lower left would be almost impossible to correct. |

Beautiful - very well exposed - capturing the full range of colors and brightness. That Shutterfly book captures a valuable piece of history.
One suggestion (not sure what your mandate/instructions were) might be to consider capturing a bit of the interior of the church to frame the windows. Given that the interior would have been much darker - it would have required something like an HDR approach. The windows are clearly the focal point; a bit of the wood framing might have given them a sense of place. |

Nice shot - I like the technique and have played with it for tricks (Halloween ghosts!). I find the repetitive nature of the images - a bit monotonous and unrealistic. I prefer the calm aesthetic of camera movement for still subjects like trees (vs. multiple still frames). The multiple frames might work better to capture things that are moving (like people walking in a plaza or skaters) - to create the movement/dynamic feel. |

I can't add much - this is a fantastic image. So much life/action - I can almost feel the chill in the air and taste the apple. Great model - and capture of a very natural scene. So much better than a posed picture. The blue/green colors work well together.
Regarding Lance's point - I believe your camera has a crop sensor - so the effective focal length was 246mm. I would have tried to shoot at 1/500th given your subjects movement and likely you scrambling into position to capture the action shot. I would have struggled to make that change while your grandson was running towards you . . . kudos to your for getting the shot! It gets easier in Tv mode; where literally you only have to manipulate the shutter speed. |

I love the way you built on the original image. These three work well together . . . my eyes wander around the frames - pausing to take in each point of interest. The over-arching theme comes across and unifies. I could see something like this hanging in a fishing lodge. Well done!

A very peaceful image . . . gives me a sense of the place, the music and serenity!
Regarding the blurred foreground - it doesn't bother me, since it's obvious what's in the foreground (I'm not left confused or trying to figure it out). The main subject is bright/clear/sharp; my eyes go there immediately.
On the other hand - since the leaves are such a monotonous/gray foreground - I suspect that they would not have distracted even if they were sharp. Either would have worked - I think your image has more artistic interest.
I might darken the bright spots (sky) in the upper right at the edge of the image. |
