Tx for your comments. These were shot aperture priority with the lens wide open (f4) and ISO set manually. I shot the first Act at ISO 3200 and noticed during the break that my shutter speed was dropping below 1/100s. I was concerned that slower shutter speeds would not give me sharp images (lots of movement on the stage!). I increased the ISO to 4000, knowing that grain is usually minimal/acceptable at that ISO. That gave me sharp images, consistently with shutter speeds at least 1/100s. There was no editing of the image color. |

I like your edit . . . for me the "star" is the water - and framing it with the tree/rocks works. I see Jennifer's point - that her image bring more emphasis to the tree. |

Interesting image - definitely works in B&W. I confess that upon first viewing I took it pretty literally and without much thought/interest. I appreciate that the questions you and Stephen raise make the image more interesting. I see the value of the empty space in the center. Also - the small number of subjects allows the viewer to see detail in each foot and think about each person (as opposed to a scene with 20 people on the staircase - which would have conveyed a crowded/rush-hour scene; with very different emotional impact). I appreciate that you are exposing us to unconventional images that nudge me to be more creative/thoughtful. |

Nice image - love the different colors/textures. Very inviting!
Few thoughts for consideration:
The brightest part of this image are the pink flowers - my eye keeps getting pulled to that corner/edge, creating some tension. You might consider a composition with the brightest part away from the edge of the frame.
Regarding the exposure - for an outdoor daytime shoot - I suspect you could have used a lower iso, wider aperture and slower shutter speed. That combination would have improved overall image sharpness/quality.
Regarding focus - not sure what was the intended focus point? And if the blurred foreground was desired? I realize this was taken 2+ years ago . . . just something to consider for future similar images. |

Beautiful image - I love how the swirling motion appears in the water; almost as though you were rotating the camera or playing some other trick. The moving leaves allow us to see how the currents are moving. Perfect exposure - great Fall colors.
A good reminder that the best pictures often require no postprocessing! |

I like that you chose to photograph this differently; most people would have focused on either the tree or the water/sky. You combined the two in a creative manner. The foreground rocks and waves/rocks in the water provide additional interest.
Do you find value in the Sony RX 100 vs. your cell phone? I contemplated purchase of the Fuji X 100 (similar camera/price point) - and decided not to buy, since there wasn't enough difference in output quality between that and my iPhone. I increasingly don't feel like carrying my full frame camera to places with good opportunities for photography. Thoughts? |
