Jennifer - interestingly - my original thought was to darken the face - so it would really be almost silhouetted against the background. Perhaps Graham got it just right . . . enough light to make it out . . . but not enough to see any detail. |

I'm also appending an edit someone suggested (just the reflection) . . . a bit too modern/abstract for me . . . beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Stay well. |

Lance: I went back to the original HDR and tried the square crop - then did B&W conversion - attached (I didn't do all the edits done in the original). It definitely changes the feel . . . . still unsure which I find more interesting. |

Great shot - almost feels like I'm heading down the hill!!!!
What was the angle of the camera? Parallel to the street where you are standing? The B&W works well and the pedestrian adds interest. The pedestrian in the background is a little distracting? Pros/cons to remove?
I wonder what a long exposure to capture car/pedestrian movement would have looked like? Perhaps next time :) |

Lance - you may be influencing us (in a good way!) . . . since every image posted this month is B&W!! Nice image - and the blue (cool) tone helps.
I like the fine detail in this and the varying thicknesses of the trunk/limbs/branches. Some of the larger branches also have waviness . . . that creates interest. Almost life like.
One question - is this the whole image shot? Or do you have one that includes the entire tree/reflection? Pros/cons of including the slightly wider view to complete the top/bottom of the image? Or is that for our imagination? |

Great job capturing that sharp pupil! Not easy with a 400mm focal length. Agree B&W works perfectly; I'm guessing there wasn't much color in the original image. The irregular pattern of the waves/swells draws interest . . . not sure why they are spaced that way. Also - I'm not sure I would have known what those lines are - since they don't look like waves - it does create interest. I like the stillness of the bird; against the motion in the water. The crop is good; I'm guessing there wasn't much of interest on either side. Well done! |

Arlo is beautiful - and a great model. I love the expression and detail/sharpness. Impressive for a 1/13 second exposure! Can you usually get this degree of sharpness with that exposure? What camera/lens did you use?
The detail in his nose and whiskers draws me in - but the eyes hold my attention longest. It's also interesting that his dark hair almost blends with the chair; so that the image is really created by the light hair/nose/eyes. I like the square crop and the B&W rendition. Both are perfect for this portrait! |

Chan - I really like the closer crop and B&W. It's a "gritty" scene . . . so the B&W works well. Agree the areas of interest are the head/arms/hands. Is there some artifact around his left elbow - not sure if from the original image or post-processing? Also I observe that the original posted is likely a different image (hand positions are different) from the same session. I think you processed the better image; there is more activity/focus on his hands. Well done! |
