100% agree!
I never would have seen/noticed/appreciated that image. I'm more about creating, tasks and technical details - definitely need to work in that other side of my brain (as my wife keeps telling me). |

Still being a bit skeptical that coffee could reflect trees/sky . . . I went into my backyard this morning with that last sip still in the bottom of a white mug. Perhaps I should have used a wider view - to capture more of the cup.

Wow - a tack sharp pupil (and catch light!) - in a small lizard with a 300mm lens. Great positioning of the camera at the same level as the animal! How were you able to do that? Is this hand held?
The texture of the skin is perfect - I can feel the rough surface.
I see some yellow hue in both the lizard's skin, foreground rocks and even the background. Was this present in the original camera raw image? Or is it a post-processing artifact?
Great shot! |

All: Thank you for your comments on this image.
Jennifer: Regarding the sharpness - the key is to use a wide angle lens and focus around the hyperfocal distance (i.e. NOT infinity). This is essentially a landscape photo with a 30mm lens. Not sure if you've ever tried the photopills app; it's very helpful. Playing with it this morning (see image) - for this shot (Canon 6D, 30mm lens, f5.6, focus at 100 feet) - the hyperlocal distance is 17 feet - and if focused on something 100 feet away - the depth of field is 14 feet to infinity. Changing just the focal length to a 100mm lens changes the hyperlocal distance to 194 feet and depth of field would be 65 feet to 206 feet (not enough to capture this image). Another approach would have been to take few images and focus stack; but since this also required bracketing for exposure - that was too much time in the middle of road! |

OK - I'm jealous - you have a fantastic model! Love the B&W; much more impactful that the original. Great detail in her cheeks/hands. How was this lit? The highlights/shadows in her hair are perfect! |

What a creative/interesting idea.
Help me understand what we're looking at - I assume a white mug? And that you take your coffee with milk (so the liquid is brown and not black)? What surface is reflecting the trees - is is the moist white mug bottom? With just a rim of coffee visible to the upper right?
I wonder if this would look better or worse with more depth of field (i.e. sharp mug rim and handle)?
The soft focus is great - "dreamy feel" is a perfect deor!
I may just take my coffee/camera outside tomorrow morning. Stay tuned. |

Wow - your post-processing took a routine/bland image and made it something special. I love the bright color the boy is walking up to . . . your vignette is perfect - gives the sense of natural shadows . . . . very well done! The stone (wall and steps) have so much texture/detail.
I was wondering if there was room to crop more, further darken the stairs/wall - and brighten the boy/upper level - however after playing with it (attached) - I like your original version better!
Well done. |

Love this image . . . at first it looked like a pencil/charcoal drawing.
B&W works perfectly. The 18mm focal length (I'm guessing on a full frame body) gives that "wide" landscape view that emphasizes the breadth/complexity.
I like that you shot this (or cropped it) at an angle - and included a tiny bit of each side of the chasis (or radiator) to give a sense of place. I considered if there would be value in a tighter crop (perhaps making it less clear what this is) or further use of light/vignette to focus the viewer on one part of the image (right now I kind of wander around looking at all the stuff!) - but upon reflection I really like what you have and wouldn't change anything.
Well done - might inspire me to open the hood of my car!
