Butch - going on my own - I have attended two workshops in my life and was extremely disappointed with both. One did not even introduce the people in attendance. Then there are some who have no clue where the shutter button is and they take up so much time.
So I do a lot of research before I go and look at maps and follow where the sun rises and sets. For wildlife, I am up before dawn and come home in the dark - try to nap mid day.
I use Lighting Trigger during the day and at night I expose for the foreground so I am shooting for 10 seconds and use. intervolemeter |

Gary - Thank you - I was just lucky to be there at that time and took advantage of the opportunity. |

Ian - thank you - I wanted to drive to Old Faithfull and have that in the foreground - 2 hrs to get there and then back - would have been an all nighter - even this I got back to the campground at 2. |

Sherry - I could say I planned the trip and arranged for the light show - yes, I made reservations a year in advanced and was just lucky to be there when it happened. |

Gary - I was in Yellowstone in May for three weeks - had sunshine, rain and yes a snowstorm while there - it was awesome!
I like that you caught the elk on the ridge, but for me the three just left of center is the shot and I would have cropped the image as well as taking a bit off the right and making it vertical. No I would not crop to where the elk are centered.
Next time you go let me know and who knows I might join you. |

Peter - as the image was loading up I first saw the mountain peaks - then as the image finally loaded the fishing boat and the wake from the boat came to life - great perspective between the mountain and the boat. Your exposure is well done and over all a very nice shot. |

Dhananjay _ very cool shot as the sun is rising - How many shots did you take to get this one? I like the horizon line and then the line coming from right to left - good composition. I tend to agree with the removal of (the small part) if the branches - other wise very nice shot. |

Butch - well I am heading there in July 8th for the North Rim. Hoping for some weather. I have been told that there was a day before all the haze - yuck! Anyway a nice shot and just love the colors and looking forward to my trip. |

Sherry - Love the pastels colors - I can see myself there soaking up the sunrise and getting excited about the day.
As far as removing "the hand of man" issue - brings on the topic of ethics in photography and how much should we be allowed to remove - or add????
I like the image and again nice job. |

Dhananjay - flowers are thought to shoot. We get wrapped up in the flower and forget about the background - or at least that has happened to me. As you said, you were experimenting - it would take a lot of work to fix the background and then it might be easier to experiment again. Hopefully the flower is local and not in some exotic land.
With that said, your subject is a bit over exposed, but good DOF. You picked a good flower as it does not have a bunch of scraggly edges - there is potential there. |

Stephanie - Love the from peeping out - way cool - a few choices - you could crop to where the from is just peeping out and take away much of the brown and it would take away much of the flash affect. Another suggestion is off camera flash. |

Marian lovely shot - nice colors and the dew drops excellent. Yes, I go with a bit to high as well. More importantly for me the dew drop on the left of the stem is distracting as my eye wants to go there. Otherwise this image is ready for print - metal with a slight luster to take away from the high reflection in a glossy metal print. Make it big 16x20!!!! |
