While I cannot comment on Alabama (the Carolinas are similar for Heron watching), I love the soft, dreamy image. And, I agree, the cropping is very good. Keep up this great work! |

Your comment about using f8 instead of f4 is interesting. For a picture like this, where my intent was to freeze the motion AND separate the eagle from the background I would 1. use a long lens (fill the frame with the bird) 2. likely choose f5.6 or f8 f stop (separate the bird from background, but have some room to accommodate sharpness for the whole bird) 3. set ISO to 400 (maybe even higher because I really want to freeze the bird (shutter speed) so the details are captured) and 4. make sure my shutter speed in that light was 1000 or higher (freeze every detail).
All this is to say you did something right because the capture and the detail is amazing. I do think if a bit over-sharpened...see the fringing on the reflection of the wings. |

The GFX's 100 megapixels certainly provides exquisite detail. You have created a really nice scenic. If the collapsing cliff were to allow, positioning the beginning of the curve more to the right, then the curve line sweeping right to left and then out into the far water might have provided more dynamic image. Suspecting changing your position to something even more precarious was not an option, a wider angle lens might have allowed some shift pre or post...and if you don't have one, here is an excuse to buy more stuff! |
