50 Feb 26 Reply Thanks, Cindy. Yes, that is the one I prefer as well. So interesting how a small tweek like that makes a big difference. Feb 18th
50 Feb 26 Comment Cindy, all the various versions of this lovely water lily (2 above the water surface and 2 in refection), and the dragonfly, make this such a compelling image. With your use of a wide focal length (or in post-processing?) you have achieved just enough softness in the background flower and its reflection to make that bright "star of the show" pop and firmly draw our attention. An effective, well-balanced composition with the darker leaves and water surface creating a nice flow into and around the frame. Feb 12th
50 Feb 26 Comment Charles, the original of this is very colourful, but I think I prefer your post-processed BW version (a bit of a tighter crop and slight blur of the background characters takes away a lot of the distractions and encourages our eye to zoom in on the dancer). 1/320s shutter speed has allowed you to effectively capture sharpness AND convey a sense of movement. I kinda like the staff across his face but would be curious to see whether a shot in which it was in a lower position gives a different feeling to the image. Great capture! Feb 12th
50 Feb 26 Comment Ger, a lovely portrait against a dark background. The back/side lighting gives depth, in particular to her face with the light/shadow contrast coming effectively right down the middle of her nose. The eyelash shadow on her upper right cheek could be a distraction, or...could add interest. Feb 12th
50 Feb 26 Comment James, great detail and textures, but I particularly like all that detail (debris?) in the foreground - it peaked my interest. You've achieved good tonal range throughout with the shine in the metal tracks coming through without being blown out. Yes, this shooting angle gives some good leading lines - I would be curious to see what stood out in some of your other shots. Feb 12th
50 Feb 26 Comment Paul, a fun people shot. Looks like you did a good job bringing out the dark area details in your BW conversion, however, the light/white areas ended up a little bright for my taste. Also, the monochrome version looks (on my screen at least) very pixelated - this isn't as obvious in the original. Feb 12th
50 Feb 26 Reply Hi Charles. I think I like this one. Thanks! Feb 10th
