Paul, Snowy Owls are such interesting looking birds, aren't they? I like the BW of this and the details you have captured - the talons, the contrasting feathers especially. Even though your depth of field choice has nicely blurred the background foliage, I might suggest cropping in a little to eliminate some of it. Welcome back! |

Cindy, I love your zoo portraits. Good tonal range and, yes, textures in this. The pose and the contemplative look on his face illicit such emotion. ISO 100? |

Charles, great find! Although the composition is a bit busy, I find my eye wandering through the frame taking it all in. The image is a good choice for BW conversion - the colours, although soft in the original, detract from the shapes and textures highlighted in the monochrome. I don't think you have over-sharpened in post, however, even though I can see why you did it, I am not sure I would have cropped the top quite so tightly. |

Ger, you have captured an intriguing story here to be sure, presumably in French (ha ha). Good tonal range and textures throughout, the stonework in the background provides some context. I do find the absence of the left side of the sales person's body a little disconcerting. However, cropping him out entirely would take away from the story and, possibly including him would create a dark distraction in the foreground (you have probably thought about all this - always hard to know what to do in these circumstances, I think). |

James, I really like the BW of this. For me, it changes the feel of the image from a "snapshot" to more of an art piece. Nice capture of the cheeky expression on the model's face and her stance. Great job on the conversion - toning down the background helps her stand out, I think. You have also achieved good skin tones, something I often find challenging with BW portraiture. |
