Thanks, Everyone. James, I like your crop however I might go a little less tight at the top so that the upper corner of that centre window has a little more room (and then clone out any dark bits still visible in the upper right corner of the frame) - yes, something to try. |

Chuck, I agree with Cindy's comments on your happening to catch "the decisive moment" here (the dog's front paw and the owner's right foot raised give a sense of movement and balance). The shadows add interest. You have achieved good tonal range despite the brightness of the light, and nice sharpness in the dog's fur and face. Too bad about the other person behind the dog's tail, but a fun shot! |

Mary Ann, I like your high key version (losing the clouds adds negative space to the image - not a bad thing , imho). However, I agree with Cindy that you could do some cropping (perhaps even to a portrait configuration). It looks to me like your high key edit might have lost some texture and detail in the cormorant's (?) feathers, particularly in the dark areas. Forgive me for saying this but could you also straighten the horizon? |

James, I really like the monochrome of this image. The clouds and their soft reflections in the lake are magical. Your focus is sharp and you have good tonal range. I agree with Cindy - the bright lower right corner draws my eye. Hard to tell it is snow in the BW version so I took the liberty of taking the image into photoshop to darken it just a bit (-brightness, -contrast, -exposure) with a mask. What do you think?

Wow, Cindy, a stunning image! The strong lines and curves, the perfect (imho) tonal variation, the sharp focus and depth of field, and yes, the person sitting in the pew to give a sense of scale and adds interest all contribute to this being an all-round keeper. Beautiful! |

Paul, yes, the monochrome is the version that works best here, I think, and Cindy's suggestion about increased contrast would have been mine, as well. (I think her edit works). What I do really like about the image is way the strong leading lines of the trees take us into the frame and towards the bright patch of sky in the top centre. I think the vertical configuration works well. |
