Chuck, I was a little confused as to what the story was here until you clarified. You have included some interesting elements - the long straight road leading our eye to the hills in the distance, the damaged mailbox. However, it might have added interest (and a journalistic quality to the shot) to have the driver, having downed the mailbox, standing by her car looking dismayed, or something like that (?) |

Wow, Cindy, you got a lot of mileage out of this penitentiary visit, yeah? Great sharpness, texture and contrast - HDR worked well, I think, to give good tonal values. I also like how the diagonal angle of your shot leads us into the frame. This is an indoor "landscape" that I can image really working for a variety of interesting close-up and abstract images as well. |

Karl, I really like the monochrome of this image. While the colour version is more of a "Fall colour" shot, the BW to me is more fine art. The sharper focused branches don't bother me all that much, but cloning them out (as in James' edit) works as well. I really like the bright back lighting on the leaf, especially in the monochrome. |

Mary Ann, lots to draw our attention in this image. I like the subtle tones in the colour version but also like the BW conversion and crop. Looks like you put some work into bring out detail in both the very bright window, in the dark back wall and in the area in the bottom right of the frame. My favourite element in the image is the metal circle (barrel strap?) in the bottom left with the sun streaming down through it. |

James, I like this shot but I thought I would try converting your uncropped image to BW just to see, because I like the old wheel in context too. Converted in Photoshop adjusting the colour sliders (darker greens, yellows and blues and, surprisingly, lighter magentas) and masking out some of the bright areas at the top of the frame. Not sure what you think - it might be a little dark. |

Paul, here is a suggested edit from me...in Photoshop, I flipped the image (as per James' suggestion, straightened it so that the reflection was horizontal and adjusted the brightness, contrast and exposure in selected areas. The chainlink fence I simply cropped out but I also cloned out (not very carefully, I am afraid) the small tree in the centre, which was also drawing my attention. To me this still allows for the abstract quality of the shot but not sure what you think. |
