Paul, I think the BW conversion works well here - the bright blue sky in the colour version is a bit of a distraction. I am wondering about altering your shooting angle to avoid including the bushes in the background - I don't think they add a whole lot to the "story" here. Perhaps shooting from higher up and/or zooming in on the detail of one of more of the rock pillars. I also think this is a shot that might be taken in less harsh light to capture more texture in the rocks. Lots of potential in this park, I think, if you go there every year. |

Chuck, a fun "people" image! I think the selective focus created by your shallow depth of field works well. Great detail on the heads and torsos of the dolls in front and lovely BW tones throughout the image. |

Cindy, I don't have a lot to add to what Lance and Mary Ann have said about your capture of the light and shadow in this image - beautiful! Your inclusion of the sharply textured stone floor in the foreground along with the background wall gives a lovely balance to the image. |

Mary Ann, I am always amazed at how converting a landscape to monochrome can turn it from a perfectly lovely country scene into something that is a more fine art. An excellent choice on your part - both the conversion to BW and the crop at the top to eliminate most of that bright overcast sky. Good work in post bringing out some detail in the dark tree branches and the stream. I have occasionally heard criticism from photographers about the white balance of snow. Have you tried increasing the whites a little in the BW version to make the snow a little less grey? |

James, I agree with Mary Ann about your shooting angle. I like the way the grill work leads our eye into the frame and its smooth texture and sheen contrasts with the grunginess of the body and the punched out headlight. The bright turquoise paint in the colour version is beautiful, but I think the BW better showcases the detail, the texture and the historic look of this vintage auto. |
