Hi Cindy,
Don't you just love those happy accidents - this one (the pear stem and the kettle spout) really works, I think. This is a beautiful still life that works in both BW and colour. I love the luscious reddish-brown tones in the colour version but it looks like you have brought out some strong textures in the monochrome version - the sheen of the kettle, the frostiness of the grapes and the roughness of the pear skin - that don't appear to stand out quite as much in the colour image. I like the formality of the composition and the fact that you have "stepped back" enough so as not to crowd the subjects. |

Hi Mary Ann,
I think I agree with James about the crop - helps us focus on the in-focus subjects. I much prefer the BW for this image. The blurred blossoms make for an interesting backdrop (and provide some context) however, I would love to see these two very detailed, very sharp lovelies against a more minimalist background. |

Hi James,
I like both versions of this image - the colour for its beautiful soft tones, but the BW for its abstract other-worldly feel. Great job bringing out the detail in post processing. I do find the dark spots at the top of the frame a little distracting. This would look great as a very large print! |

Hi Paul,
I, too, prefer the BW image. I think the symmetry and cropping off the bottom works well. I, personally, don't find the whites overly bright, but you might achieve more balance to the image by bringing up the shadows and the detail in the bolts and the wood beams. Interesting image! |
