Karl, I don't have a lot to add to what Mary Anne and Cindy have said. Although I like the hues in the colour version, I think the monochrome emphasizes details and features - the textures in the sky and the branches, the looks on their faces, the detail in the mother's coat - that tend to get overshadowed by colour. There is a lovely flow to this image that also stands out more, I think, in the BW. I do like Mary Ann's highlights and exposure edits. No wires that I can see - great capture of a decisive moment! |

Cindy, you have captured the lighting on this dogwood blossom so beautifully. A lovely image with strong texture and sharpness on the main subject(s) and a softer, increasingly blurred background. To me, the leaf in the upper right works to place the subject in context, however I might (and this is somewhat picky) clone out the short twig above the blossoms - I find it a bit of a distraction. Great shot! |

Mary Ann, I really like the monochrome version of this and, although I like the sombreness of the dark exposure, I might try bringing up the shadows in the rocks just a little for more detail. The panoramic crop works well, although it might be interesting, if possible, to include a touch more sky. I actually like the footprints in the sand - they add texture to the foreground and give a sense of quiet at the end of the day (after all those beachcombers have gone home). |

Chuck, I love this - the sepia tones, the light, the texture all work well, giving the image an antique, "film-capture" richness. I think it would be interesting to try others' suggestions - wood flooring, a lower shooting angle, a different crop, just to see what works for you. However, I like your post-processed image as it is. |

Paul, I agree with others' comments, although I am fine with the exposure and contrast of the BW. I like the symmetry of this image but find the slightly damaged shutters add interest and a nice touch of asymmetry to the composition. Although I like the soft greenish tints of the colour version, I think the monochrome gives the image more of an appropriate "olden-days" feel. |
