50 Oct 21 Comment Kerry, I think the techniques you used to soften the image work well with your subject's skin tones but, you are right, the resulting overall effect is a bit flat and hazy. I agree with Cindy about using this as a promo photo, but I would love to see you do some portraits of this lovely woman against a plain background. I find the white take-out container at the bottom of the frame quite distracting. BTW, welcome to the group! Oct 11th

50 Oct 21 Reply Hi Bev,
Thanks for your feedback. I was similarly torn about this version of the cathedral interior. just for fun, I have uploaded a shot I entered in one of our photo club competitions recently...I tried converting this one to BW, but think it works better in colour.

50 Oct 21 Comment Chuck, I, too, prefer the monochrome and the closer square crop. The light coming in from the left side is effective but I wonder how adding just a little back light might impact the image. I really like your dark background and selective focus but would like to see a little more tonal variation in the ice cubes. Yes, a very unique, interesting image. Oct 11th
50 Oct 21 Comment Yes, welcome, Mary Ann.
I agree with all that Cindy said, except that I like the dark exposure for its moodiness. I also think that just a small increase in the luminance in the shadows would bring out more detail in the rocks. Perhaps a little more contrast or texture in the clouds would also contribute to the atmosphere. I prefer your BW version - you have achieved a lovely tonal range in the monochrome.

50 Oct 21 Comment Paul, I also prefer the darker background in the original however, it does look like some of the detail is lost in the lighter areas. Perhaps a little selective detail extraction or texturing just on the flowers? A pleasing composition with the blossoms "cradled" by the foliage. I, too, like the vertical crop. Oct 11th
50 Oct 21 Comment Cindy, I think you have captured both (his age and his personality) in a very complimentary way. You have rendered beautiful tones throughout the image and I love the twinkle (catch light) in his eyes. Well done! He looks like a fun guy to be traveling with. Oct 11th
