Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
63 Oct 19 Comment A great subject and great color. I like how you've filled the frame with the flower, allowing the petal on the right to flow into the negative space of the black background. I would have liked it better had the petals on the right not been cut off. Also, if the main flower had been positioned a little to the left, it would have been closer to the 1/3 point on the rule of thirds and perhaps a stronger composition. But of course, that's a rule that's meant to be broken! In any case, there's only so much you can do handheld at a flower show. Good job! Oct 20th
63 Oct 19 Comment I concur with the previous comments. The resemblance to a face is striking and makes the image. I also agree with cloning out the bit of yellow and a couple other minor spots at other locations. On my monitor, the purple appears oversaturated, but that may be on my end. My impression is that both the color and composition are strong enough that excessive saturation and vibrance are not needed to carry this image. Oct 20th
63 Oct 19 Comment A great subject. It looks like two lovers, or perhaps two entwined snakes, so bears some symbolism. I like the way you reduced the background to emphasize the foreground objects. Also, thanks for including the artist's intent for the photo. That helps to interpret your objectives for the photo. I'll try to mirror that practice when I submit my own images in future months. 63 Oct 19 Comment My comments duplicate what others have said. The butterfly and flower are very good. Cropping as you did and adjusting the tones helped immensely. Still, I find the busy background distracting as others did. Another option is to make a background card to position behind the flower using a Plamp to hold it in place, then wait for the butterfly. The background could be either a solid colored card or a photo you've made of a defocused subject of appropriate color. For example, solid green or black. At any rate, nice job. Oct 20th
63 Oct 19 Comment I concur that the focus stacking produced a very sharp image throughout. The halo on the top of the wing and on the right side are no doubt artifacts of Helicon Focus. Which conversion method did you use? Sometimes changing the method can help resolve issues like that. The posing and positioning are great, as though you captured the bee in flight. Oct 20th
63 Oct 19 Comment A very nice photo. The composition is spot on, with the flower posed at the left third and leaning into the negative space on the right. I like the brilliant colors and do not object to the shiny spots on the petals. Oct 20th
