What a winning combination. Your story adds to the background of the image. Those are the fun times that make us want to take more pictures. Everything works in this image. The subject, background, pose and lighting all add up to a perfect blend. |

Once again you have shown us that your years of experience in photographing birds pays off in creating spectacular images. The image also demonstrates how to capture textured blacks and the whites in the other bird. Excellent job of cropping and subject placement within the frame. |

Like my image this month, yours also is better suited for monochrome. As others have noted, those bright clouds need to be cropped out. I learned a simple trick many years ago when viewing images to determine where the brightest areas are; squinting at an image or print quickly reveals where the brightest objects are. Those bright areas pull our eyes to that area and away from the real subject. Another suggestion would be to add a very subtle blue tone. It adds a slight cooling effect to the steel framing. |

Excellent work. Including the persons feet worked perfectly. That pattern is definitely worth saving for use as an overlay on other architectural images. |

Perfect! Bravo. You even captured the mosquitoes flying around his head. At first I thought they looked like dust spots but then I realized that you wouldn't allow that. |

I envy anyone who has the time, patience and energy to achieve these results. You have done an amazing job. Photographically I find the bright background as a distraction to the overall image. The subdued tones of the Russian Sage get lost because of the background color. |

Hi Jane, I have tried a version where I have added an 85 Warming Filter in Phy. It's found under Layers>Photo Filters. I used the 95 warming filter and adjusted the density and added control in Layers with the Opacity sliders. |

Thanks. I can see the subtle differences. I need to dig deeper into luminosity masks. I've got the Tony Kuyper masks but haven't put the time into learning them. |

Hey Rick, thanks. I considered boosting the contrast but doing it did not look good. I did try boosting the brightness on the butte and that didn't look natural. I'll try your suggestions. Thank you |

I really like your composition. The overall blend looks good and not overprocessed. I might consider cropping the blue area in the upper left corner. It tends to draw my eye away from the center of interest, the tree. I may back off the contrast just a bit too.

Oe thing I have found with the various HDR programs is that there's a wide variety of results and presets. As a result of this variance, I find myself trying a couple of programs before I end up with a finished product. NIK also have a wide variety of presets, some of which I don't care for. I try to stay with the realistic presets. In the case of your image I believe the shadows have been over processed and lack overall contrast and saturation. |

I have to agree with Brad on your image. The waterfall is the center of interest, and it should be brighter. I also think you could improve the impact by adding a heavy vignette to emphasize the waterfall. I have attached my interpretation. While it may not be a perfect and exact representation of the actual scene, it does compositionally and through the use of selective radial gradient filters and perhaps a heavy vignette drawn the viewers' attention to the waterfall. |

I regret not being able to visit the Badlands while at the Rapid City Conference. Canon does do some wonky thigs with bracketed photos for HDR. My Canon 7D MKII gives some strange results too. I either manually bracket or use my Cam Ranger. Your final results are perfect and do not look fake of overprocessed. |

Great composition and outstanding processing. The details in the window make this scene. |

That sure is a popular place. All of your work has paid off. Your results appear natural and not over processed. I'm constantly amazed how new technology and techniques can enhance our older images. I need to dig deeper into luminosity masks.
Brad, I took a closer look at your before image. It's not the same scene. |
