How did you know about my 50 year membership in PSA? |

Hi Gary, After I completed my comments for SG 44, I came back to SG4 and finally realized what it was about this woman's portrait that bothered me. It was her face. It's darker than her overall skin tones. I knew Adobe Camera Raw Filter had the ability to recognize people, but it can also fine tune the selection to faces, eyes, lips hair and others. I opened the image and selected Person and let the program work to define the person and finally was able to select her face and lightened it only. I am pleased with the results. What do you think? Try it out. |

A very impactful image. Your idea of creating a black and white image was great. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't recognize the Ukraine flag. The black and white eliminates all of the surrounding distractions plus the placement of the subject is perfect. |

What a terrific catch by the bird. Your skills photographing birds is remarkable. And, adding new equipment and technology will increase your productivity and chances exponentially. There's not much you can do to improve this picture. As I've told you in the past, using Adobe Camera Raw Filter and the Auto setting will help every time. Imagine your success rate with an old 35 mm camera and a 36 exposure roll of film. |

This is a very strong image of this little fellow. Have you tried the Masking capabilities in Lightroom? By selecting the subject or background you can easily reduce the overall brightness. |

I'm glad to hear that you're doing better. I like your composition and backlighting. It really makes the image. The only fault I see is that distraction in the background. Without knowing the situations you were working in it's difficult to speculate on a fix. An assistant could have held it down or held up a card or reflector to block the light. |

Okay Isaac, what happened to the shadow from the second palm tree? One needs to look close at this composition to see the guy behind the beach chair. I did two things. I opened the image in ACR and used the Auto tab to brighten the image. I then added just a tad to the base of the image. I didn't like the near merger of the palm tree and the base of the image. |

They gave you a difficult situation to work with. Low flat lighting is difficult to work with and then they add a dark-skinned person. The first thing I looked at was her eyes. It's too bad you didn't have a small reflector to bounce some light into her face or a weak fill flash. The rest of your work in post has worked quite well. I agree with Isaac about the low angle too. |

Thanks Isaac. Here is the before image. I'll pass along to Gary. Note the canopy, U-Haul Truck, people and posts. |

Well handled. I like the soft colors of your presentation. Adobe Evangelist Julieanne Kost has had some recent pictures of close-ups in the Bad Lands and they were all presented in soft pastel colors. My only suggestion would be a slight crop on the bottom the strengthen the composition. |

Definitely a former PSA landmark. I have been there a few times myself but have never had this much water. I am in agreement with the others about some boost in contrast. The only thing I would add is a slight vignette to darken the edges. |

Jane, I sense your frustration with your photography, your subject matter and weather conditions. Our emotional mood often affects our photography. I recall a recent opportunity to photograph a beautiful church interior. The day got off to a bad start with a few disturbing telephone calls and the end result was reflected in my images.
I give you credit for trying. However, while your overall effort and process is acceptable, perhaps a close-up view of the cactus and bluebonnets would have been a better composition. |

A pleasing composition with a very good blend of natural and artificial lighting. The artificial lighting does not overpower the scene but adds a touch of warmth to an otherwise cold toned scene. The bright reflection on the left adds some balance too. |

A boring image...excuse the pun. Great use of natural light. The addition of the oil can adds the balance to the composition and the spot of color pop. |

I like your crop and composition. The overall process has worked well. A solid image improved with the aid of AI. The new Remove tool is an incredible tool in photoshop. |
