I remember comments made by an old member of our camera club who has since passed on. He said, "there's no picture that cannot be improved." When you look at the variety of comments here you can see how everyone has a different opinion. One example is Gary's response to my comments on his balloon shot.
My favorite response is that's why there are so many wallpaper books. |

Hi Gary, I'm not experienced in PJ. As a matter of fact I don't have any stars and frankly have never entered any PJ exhibitions. I guess using your logic that the people in question are going to go up in the balloon shouldn't they be more attentive to the process of filling the balloon? In my opinion, since they don't appear to be interested in the activities, they're a distraction. |

It's obvious that everyone saw something different in your image. What I saw was a heavy vignette strongly darkening the edges to brig the viewers attention to the cluster of leaves. |

I agree with Gary on the removal of the utility pole. While you're removing things I would also remove the 11864 sign along with the light blue object. You have the basics of a good composition and the rain imparts a mood to the scene. I would strongly suggest using Adobe camera raw filter and using the "Auto" button and see the results. The colors become more saturated, what it needed. It wouldn't hurt to add a slight amount of vignetting to darken the edges. |

The position of the dog is nicely done with adequate depth of field. It's well exposed and the colors appear accurate. I would crop off some of the extra space on the right side since it really doesn't add to the image. This image is a strong candidate for a textured background and a painterly effect to take it to the next level. |

I'm always impressed by the diversity of the images from this group. I like the straight forward approach to the composition. The strong vertical lines are interrupted by a bold break in the pattern. Well done. |

One word that comes to mind is symmetry. Your image is simple and well exposed. The added cyclist is the pimento in the olive. Well done. |

A good candid action shot. While the center of attention is on the main balloon that small group of people on the right side is a distraction to me. They're not engaged in the activities. In my example I have cropped the image to place to fellow in the green shirt in the lower one third position. I also applied Adobe Raw Auto, thus punching up the colors and tweaking the exposure. I also added a slight vignette to darken the image. |
