14 Jun 18 Reply I put any border on the top layer of the stack all by itself so I can change my mind easily and try different things. I usually start with a width of three or maybe four pixels for first trial and seldom go any more than that. Jun 15th
14 Jun 18 Reply No need to apologize; you probably have improved it! I'm intrigued with what you have done, and would be interested in hearing how you did what you did. Jun 15th
14 Jun 18 Comment Your owl is very friendly looking, he an his perch correctly in focus and properly exposed. The owl and his perch are very well done.

I think it should be cropped strongly, noting that almost half of the image on the right is bland, out-of-focus grass. I suggest that you might crop it strongly from both sides, on the basis that the owl and his perch are your picture. That would leave the second perch in the background, also distracting. If it were mine, I would carefully clone it out.

14 Jun 18 Comment Your composition uses the leaves and especially the eye-directing white of the petals to show off the colorful, and very detailed stamen. If you hadn't done this, the stamen would not be visible, and the image without a real center of interest. I think it is very well done.

This is one of the few images for which I can say can say a colored border is appropriate. I suggest that the border be considerably narrower; you want to separate the image from the background, but without drawing attention to itself.

14 Jun 18 Comment This is a beautiful soft-though-detailed view of flower, focus, colors and all. Your cropping starts doing your objective, but didn't get there all the way. One's eye is almost invariably attracted to the brightest places in an image, one of which is where you want, but there is another, equally bright, that also attracts the eye, that is to the petal at the bottom. It divides the interest most assuredly.

If you want to draw the eye to the stamen, darken the bottom petal somewhat.

14 Jun 18 Comment This one has strikingly brilliant colors, good focus as shown by the highlights on the left-side petals, and has a spare composition. It's very attractive.

I suggest cropping a little from the bottom, the right, and a good deal more from the top, then reversing it. The top crop will minimize the eye-attracting bright and out of focus areas there, and the rest will emphasize even more the red petals.

Now that I see it, frankly I think I overdid the top darkening, but. please notice that the top no longer attracts they eye.
