Your choice. I always have trouble with greens and reds, being a bit red-green colour blind. |

I wasn't thinking waterfall style slow shutter... just enough to show some movement, along the lines of the attached photo that I grabbed when I saw a group "surfing" in a flooded stormwater drain, using a waterskiing rope to prevent themselves being washed downstream. I think the 1/40 sec exposure gives enough movement to give a sense of the water movement without being milky soft (sorry - it's not a very good image technically - cropped from a frame with a 2 megapixel point-and-shoot that I carried around in my bicycle a decade or so ago). |

We live in interesting times. This is a powerful image and the monochrome treatment suits it well. However, I agree with Larry that the pale jacketed man to the right is a distraction as is the writing on the road sign above the head and a viewpoint further to image right might have more power. Perhaps you have other shots from different viewpoints and/or at different times that you could explore. |

A good dynamic feel with the surf crashing and the fishers working their rods. However I feel the image is a bit flat and could do with some adjustments. I had a play in PS, making a layer duplicating the original image, changed the layer blending to screen, then dropped the layer opacity until it looked better to me. the fishers still seemed a little dull so I reduplicated the screen layer and masked off everything except the fishers, which made them a bit brighter without affecting the rest of the image. To my eye this makes a more striking image, but what do you think? |

Lovely capture of the musician. I think you could probably refine the mask on your face lightening to include all the hair - it looks to me that there is a distinct line of dull hair at the top left that you missed with the brightening. I think the background is also a bit distracting. I had a play in PS, dropping the exposure and colour saturation on the greens at the right, and darkening the background area at the top left, just to see what it looks like. What do you think? |

Interesting concept, surfing in a river! For me this image has a good documentary quality, but because the foreground people are static and the person on the wave is more distant and smaller in the image, it lacks dynamism. If you have the opportunity, as Larry suggests, head upstream and try a telephoto shot of the 'surfer' with a wide aperture to give good separation between the person and the background. I'd also suggest trying different shutter speeds. A slower speed might give more blurring of the water to suggest the fast movement. |
