92 Nov 19 Comment Interesting image. I like the paint scheme on the bus. I think a wider shot might have been better. Whilst the sweeping curves of the paint job suggest movement, the bus has just stopped dead against the edge of the frame - it has no space to move to the right. And truncating just the very tail of the bus doesn't work for me. If this is a crop of a wider image, try a more relaxed crop right and left. Another suggestion might be to clone out the palm fronds visible over the roof. To me they create a visual distraction that draws my eye away from the bus and its passengers. Using a wide aperture - f2.8 or f4 for this sort of image would defocus the background structures helping to visually separate the subject (in this case, the bus) from background (building on the right of frame). However you can also use post processing to blur the background (eg Photoshop's Lens Blur filter, or the Focus Blur plugin in the GIMP package), though there would be lots of fiddly bits - the vegetation visible between the people through the windows - that would need to be in the selection for blurring. 92 Nov 19 Comment Good effort - exposure and depth of field both spot on (I assume the camera is smaller than full frame to get that depth of field at f5.6). A polarizing filter might be useful in this sort of situation to reduce reflections on the glass. Or maybe have something identifiable this side of the glass to make a reflection that complements the monster outside (another monster? Pumpkin face? fairy with wand? etc. and adjust the lighting on the internal subject to balance the reflection with the image through the window). Just some suggestions to think about for next halloween. :-) Nov 11th
92 Nov 19 Comment I agree with Lou. Fixing the converging verticals and tilting horizontals would strengthen the image. Possibly crop a bit of the roadway. My only additional comment is that it looks a bit abandoned - no humans present. Waiting a while to see if someone comes by would probably add something to the story (but perhaps you did wait around, or didn't have the opportunity). Anyway, nicely seen. Nov 11th
92 Nov 19 Comment Nice image and probably a difficult shot in low light. I like the colour and sense of dynamism. I's suggest trying a bit of cropping on the right to cut down on all the empty footpath (sidewalk) that does not add to the story. Nov 11th
92 Nov 19 Comment I too agree that the image might be strengthened by cropping, but for me, the story is in the man and dog, and their shadows, so I'd crop more strongly - suggestion attached. Nov 11th
