Hi Damon, just go back and take another shot of the feeder without the bird and expose for the highlights then using photoshop masks just blend in the new shot over the old just where the bird feeder is. I'd suggest you do it the time of day so that the lighting is comparable to your initial shot. Jane had a good idea about blending in a natural landing site just the lighting could be tricky to make it believable. |

Yep resolution gets corrupted somehow. I can't figure out what I did probably a limitation of the tools. Maybe I'll try photoshop - |

iPhone makes it easy to play with shots- waiting in line or at drs office or just at taking a short break from something. You know some of the tools make it super easy for anyone to do this, loving photoshop instead of complaining I just joined the crowd and used the tools. They are limiting in some ways but fun to play with. |

You're right about backgrounds not only that I've used similar shots to add texture to shots too as an overlay. |

Hi Jane, great subject. I was in Hawaii earlier this year and I share your fascination with the oceans powerful waves. The exposure communicate the feeling you were going for. I would consider cropping up slightly loosing 1/3 of the dark area as my eye is drawn there looking for details. For the same reason I would clean up the grass or twigs on the left lower corner.

Hi John, great subject and good exposure. I agree with the previous comments. Instead of making it a bull shot I would also consider cropping in from the right. There are some water high lights there that tend to compete with the leading lines. I often edit a shot wait a week or so then go back to it and find that I change it. Just because the class ended doesn't mean your work has to end.

Hi Damon, thanks for the info on your flash experience. I don't have much experience with flash photography so it's hard for me to comment. I think the exposure is correct, with the catch light caused by the flash. I went shooting humming birds with someone much more experienced and we used the flash just to create the catch light. I used shutter speed to stop motion but had similar blurring in the wings, which I like cause it shows motion as a previous comment said. We added an extension tube to blur the background instead of causing to go black. The chain on the left edge is to closely cropped and distracts my eye away from the bird. I would probably show a little more of the bird feeder and try to adjust the chains highlights with a double exposure. I like compositing and playing around when th photoshop shop too much to commit to shooting just jpeg.

Hi Richard, I agree with the previous comments. Good exposure and focus but lacks a little pizazz. I wonder if you cropped some of the cabin and made this a vertical shot instead of square and upped the contrast a bit on the cabin if that would help. If you're into compositing you may consider adding a small porch light with a little glow. A very technically challenging shot!
