45 Jun 25 Reply Thanks, Cindy! It's always exciting finding a jumping spider on a flower. They do seem to pose for you at times by holding still and looking directly at the camera. Jun 11th
45 Jun 25 Reply I should have been clearer. I was referring to removing the bright, yellow lamp in the portion that you cropped off. The white light on the boat is fine. Jun 4th
45 Jun 25 Comment A pleasant and colorful image very nicely captured. To me, the complementary colors of teal and orange make this image pop. Jun 4th
45 Jun 25 Comment Before reading the description of this image, I wasn't sure what I was looking at. I like the way the small bright yellow grass stands out from the rest of the image. It reminded me of a skier looking down at a slope. And, then my mind was trying to figure out what the sloping tiles really were. A very intriguing image! Jun 3rd
45 Jun 25 Comment Orchids are often difficult to photograph because the background is so busy. You achieved sharp focus on the two orchids in front while the remainder of the image is defocused. It is quite easy in Lightroom to make a selection of the subject (two orchids), invert the selection, and slightly decrease the brightness of the background. That might make the two orchids stand out more. A great shot! Jun 3rd
45 Jun 25 Comment Such a beautiful scene! You don't find very many places like this anymore. Although the entirety of the scene is picturesque, the photograph seems to be lacking a primary subject. If the subject is the blue boat (or maybe the group of boats), then I might darken the sky and add a vignette to focus one's attention on them. Jun 3rd
45 Jun 25 Comment A very appealing shot! I like how the bright, reflected colored lights in the water and the light bulbs on the bridge frame the boat coming through the overpass. Removing the name of the boat helps eliminate that distraction. However, I'm not sure I would have cropped off the top of the image. I definitely would have cloned/removed the bright lamp. But, I like seeing the wall of buildings in the background. Jun 3rd
45 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Robert. When I use a flash in macro bug photography, I usually set the aperture to f/11. But, this shot was taken in ambient light. I had to use ISO 800 to get the shutter speed fast enough to capture the moving spider. It was also a bit windy. I was fortunate to get the spider's eyes and its pedipalps (those short, hairy, white appendages) all in relatively good focus. Jun 2nd

65 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Maria. The white and blue varieties of the nigella are some of my favorite flowers to photograph because they are so challenging. Jun 18th
65 Jun 25 Reply Thanks, Dick. Every year, I go to the public garden to shoot these nigella hoping to find a different perspective or look to the image. Jun 16th
65 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Barbara. I actually prefer the blue variety of these nigella, but the spider stands out better against the white petals. Jun 16th
65 Jun 25 Comment Great shot, Dick! I've never taken a decent picture of bleeding hearts for one reason or another. You found a beautiful specimen with a pleasing background. Those two sprigs at the top balance the composition, and the purple blob in the background adds a nice touch of color. Well seen and produced! Jun 6th
65 Jun 25 Comment Another great image, Maria! What a lovely, simple composition. The different stages and colors of the forget-me-nots produce an outstanding image. The flowers are well spaced and diagonally composed to give the image a sense of dynamics. The black background makes the flowers jump off the page. A masterfully created image! Jun 6th
65 Jun 25 Comment Hi, Mark, and welcome to our group! From your first post, its obvious that you are quite an advanced photographer and no stranger to focus stacking. I assume you also use Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Your capture of a Christmas cactus is excellent with all the foreground petals in sharp focus and well composed. A simple, but elegant image. My only suggestion would be to use Lightroom's selection tool to lighten the in-focus petal on the left and darken the out-of-focus petals in the lower right. I took the liberty to modify your image to show what I had in mind. I hope you don't mind too much. Jun 6th
65 Jun 25 Comment When I first looked at this image, the bright yellow flower against the complementary dark blue background grabbed my attention while the dark green leaves nicely balances the composition. I really like the simplicity of the shot. Jun 3rd
65 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Mark. I'm not a 100% sure I can remember how I diffused/blurred the background. I played with this image with several variations. But, I don't believe I diffused or blurred the background. Instead, I used Nik Collection's Viveza to decrease the brightness of selected background areas. I also used ColorEfex to add a slight fog effect to the background. Jun 2nd
