When I go back to California in a couple months, I'll reshoot this building with different lighting. Maybe more direct lighting will help and give it more contrast and saturation. |

Thank you, Bai. The building does need some more contrast. I shot this early in the morning with the sun behind the building, so there was not much light. |

Yes, cropping off the dark portion on the left works well. And, as Charlie suggested, maybe not crop off as much from the top of the original to give the flower a little more breathing space. |

Yes, the unusual building architecture is what caught my eye as well as the colors. But, I think the unusual architecture comes across better in B&W because the mind isn't distracted with the vibrant colors. |

I played around with this image in B&W and tried something more dramatic. |

Oops, I meant to say, "You could try cropping a bit from the LEFT side to eliminate that dark shadowy portion." |

Thank you, Robert. I'll definitely try converting it to a B&W image. Good suggestion! |

You captured this water lily beautifully! The offset flower lends the composition more interest, and the variegated red petals are quite unusual. I would suggest darkening the specular highlight in the lower right corner. You could also try cropping a bit from the right side to eliminate that dark shadowy portion. |

This is a great capture of two, side-view bison with both of them facing the same direction. The one in front looks like it posed for a buffalo nickel! You brought out the details in the bisons' dark bodies beautifully although you might try adding back a bit more contrast to their bodies. Excellent image! |

What great fortune finding a merganser and 10 babies sitting on a rock. The image is nicely composed with the birds in good focus. I would suggest reducing the highlights to bring out some detail in the white feathers and removing the two bright branches on the left. |

This looks like an interesting town with wonderful opportunity for detailed, close up shots. I also like this overall perspective with no tourists; just the raft and poles in the foreground in the rain. You can image someone standing of the raft pushing the raft with the poles. If only that corner wasn't cut off. |

The three sunflowers provide a simple, but effective composition that stand out from the green leaves. The lighting seems a bit flat, and, perhaps, adding a little contrast might improve the image. A very nice capture! |

The engine looks sparkling clean, and you captured it perfectly. The selective toning works well with this image with the red color popping out of the black and white background. And, making the orange wires more reddish creates a stronger image. I also like the full range of highlights and shadows and their strong contrast. Beautifully done! |

Thank you, Diana. Dahlias are my favorite flowers to photograph because of their diversity, colors and patterns. |

Thank you, Dick. I'm still learning how to create textured backgrounds, and I was pleased with how this one turned out. |

An interesting image that looks like mixed-media art. Your image looks like a painting with white-and-yellow pieces of paper pasted on it. The more I look at it, the more I like it. |

You captured the soft qualities of this peony beautifully. The pink texture also nicely enhances the softness of the image. Although not a deal breaker, the dark stem at the bottom bothers me a little bit because it is so dark compared to the light pastel pink of the rest of the image. Maybe if you can lighten the shadows a bit, it might make the tonal quality more consistent. Well done! |

Dick, I realized this image conveys three seasons - winter, spring, and fall. From that perspective, a rather unusual shot! I like how the leaf is peeking out of the snow, and especially the tip of the leaf that overlaps the snow. Nicely seen! |

Ester, you're correct that there are several ways to crop this image. Although your crop enlarges the lantana, there appears to be a significant loss of detail. My preference would be to crop the original image to keep the clusters of flowers and the butterfly. Here's my suggested version. |

Maria, I like the subject with its spiky thorns, leaves, and magenta pistils (?). I also like the complementary green and magenta colors. You captured it beautifully with the important spiky appendages in good focus. I might, however, suggest darkening the background as the bright highlights seem a little too distracting. I took your image into Lightroom, selected the subject, inverted the selection and darkened the background. I also used a brush to darken some of the remaining highlights and added a strong vignette. What do you think? |

Wow! I love dahlia kurls, and you captured them in this shot perfectly! The colors are stunning, and the details are exquisite. Outstanding! (NOTE: I intentionally misspelled c-u-r-l-s because, for some reason, this website does not allow that word to be displayed correctly). |
