45 Jul 24 Reply Thank you, Cindy. After dwelling on both images for several days, I prefer the above image because, as you state, it conveys a sense of motion. It is as if the plant is coming at you from the upper right corner. Jul 5th
45 Jul 24 Comment I like your vision of capturing three backlit flowers with strong rim lighting around the cacti. However, I'm wondering if the image could be stronger if you darken all the bright areas in the background.

Maybe something like this.

45 Jul 24 Comment Another wonderful image with a strong story. I've never been to a horse show, but I can still understand what is happening even without reading the background information. The horse and trainer show action while the judge watches intently. Your post-process blurring of the spectators and cropping make the three key subjects stand out nicely. Well done! Jul 3rd
45 Jul 24 Reply Thank you, Robert. I like both versions equally as well for different reasons. Jul 2nd
45 Jul 24 Comment Excellent capture of a car graveyard! I think you added just the right amount of grunge texture to the image. It looks very natural and not so smooth as the original. Jul 1st
45 Jul 24 Comment A classic bee-on-a-flower shot! It was nice of the bee to be so cooperative and face you. I like that you go the eyes, legs, antennae and wings in focus, too. If I were to suggest anything, you might try darkening the bright green area in the background to the left...maybe even try de-saturing it a little. Nicely captured! Jul 1st
45 Jul 24 Comment A wonderful image that tells a story! Beautifully composed with perfect lighting. I wish I could shoot something as unique as this. Well done! Jul 1st

65 Jul 24 Reply Thank you, Maria! It is fun experimenting with Lensbaby lenses every so often. I still haven't learned what exactly I'm doing, but I keep trying. Jul 13th

65 Jul 24 Comment An interesting flower you captured here. The colors complement each other nicely, and I like how you darkened the background. I don't think the wind contributed much to the out-of-focus appearance because I don't see any motion blur. I think the blurriness is related more to insufficient depth of field. The magenta bud tips seem in focus, but some of the green below them appear blurry. To me, the magenta flowers are the primary subjects, and it might help to crop off the bottom third of the image where the leaves are. Also, the open flower is a little blown out, and reducing the highlights in it might improve the overall image. Very nice shot! Jul 10th
65 Jul 24 Reply Thank you, Barbara. I go through phases of using Lensbaby lenses. I seem to have a love/hate relation with them. And, I, too, learned a lot from Dirk Erken's dreamy-flower videos. He makes it look so easy. Jul 4th
65 Jul 24 Comment That is one healthy milkweed plant, and you captured it beautifully! I love the shallow depth of field with the nicely blurred background (bokeh). I also like how you retained the subdued red color. Wonderful lighting and composition as well. I cannot suggest anything to improve it. Jul 3rd
65 Jul 24 Comment Maria, what a great capture! The flower and bee are all in sharp focus, and I like the subtle texture that you added. The original image was a little dark, and you were correct to brighten it. But, I think you brightened it a little too much. Also, I might suggest that for a vertical subject such as this flower, a rectangular (portrait) crop would provide a better composition. Jul 3rd
65 Jul 24 Comment The overcast day provided beautiful, even lighting for your daylily with no harsh shadows. The green and magenta colors complement each other very well. The only issue I see is that portions of the background are a tad too bright and pull my eye away from the main daylily. It might also help to de-saturate the background a little especially the blurred daylily that appears a bit oversaturated. A wonderful image overall! Jul 2nd
