I usually shoot dahlias handheld on a cloudy, but bright day so that I don't have to use a tripod. When I saw this little fellow on a dahlia petal, I wish I had auto-focus. I also didn't use the lens focus ring, but rather kept the focal distance constant and slowly moved forward and backward until the focus peaking showed the spider was in focus. I took about six shots this way, and only one shot was in perfect focus. |

Thank you, Jack. When I was processing this image, I had a difficult time deciding whether the subject should be the curvaceous dahlia petal or the spider. I decided to keep the spider small and make use of negative space. |

Thank you, Cindy. When I first examined the original RAW file, it took a while to figure out the best composition. I did have to brighten the dark areas quite a bit and even adjusted the hue to match the pink dahlia color. |

Thanks, Ray. I don't know what more I can do for the casual viewer other than use a descriptive image title as boring as it is. |

I was referring to the other lily pads in the upper left and right corners. |

I like the way you processed your image giving it a grunge look, but I just wanted to experiment a little to see if I could process it differently and come up with an image with a different feel. Starting with your original image, I used Lightroom's radial filter to brighten the center. I then used the graduated filter to tone down the sky, and I added a vignette. Lastly, I cloned out the two buoys like you did. The reason I processed your image this way was because I liked the moody feel of your original image, but wanted to highlight the pier and lighthouse. |

There is a lot of intricate detail in this temple roof, but it is difficult to appreciate the fine details with this small image format. Perhaps an image with more pixels would help with the resolution. |

I like what you did to the image to bring out the contrast and clarity, but I'm not sure about the cropping. In some respect, the original image seems better in that you can see the entire cluster of lily pads and intricate stems, and the single flower provides a point of interest. However, the reflections and other lily pads are very distracting. If you can clone those distractions out of the original image and add a dark vignette along with your post-processing, you might have a stronger composition. |

You captured the beauty of Zabriskie Point beautifully! The early morning light really brings out the colors in a soft manner. I like the layers starting with the foreground ledge, then the jaggedy rock formation layers, and finally the hazy mountains and sky in the background. My only suggestion is to clone out that little post in the lower right corner. |

I really like this image. It is so surreal and makes me think, "What is that huge sculpture doing in the middle of this open field?" The woman walking away from it adds scale and a human touch. The conversion to B&W is perfect. If I were to make any suggestions, it might be to crop out some of the right side of the image...maybe up to the start of the clouds. To me, the story is all about everything to the left of the sculpture. |

Your images always have such character and evoke a strong emotion. When I was growing up in Chicago, my family visited the Illinois, Indiana and Michigan beaches on Lake Michigan many times although we never went to South Haven. Looking at this photo, I can feel the cool lake breeze and smell the fresh lake water. You brought out the grunge character of this industrial pier beautifully evoking a previous time when ships would load and unload their cargo from this pier. I wouldn't change a thing to the way you processed this image although I might have processed it differently. I might take a stab at trying something different in post-processing this image, and if I come up with something presentable, I'll post it separately. |
