I think that the B&W conversion really worked for this image! I dreary and snowy day, I can feel it! OK, stuck in the house, so I felt like playing a little. I brought it into Nik Silver Efex Pro which is what I use for B&W. I put a slight blue tone on it to add to the cold feeling, increased the contrast a bit, and did a very slight vignette. Curious what you think of it.

67 Apr 20 Comment I finally processed all of my New Zealand photos. Here are a few of the pups. Perhaps not judge worthy, but I like how they turned out. Enjoy! Apr 18th
67 Apr 20 Comment Todd,

That's what I was thinking as I was doing the shooting! I have a number of shots where the pups have really good expressions.

67 Apr 20 Reply Larry,

Yes, that would be awesome! Perhaps the next time I am down in FL, which is very much up in the air these days unfortunately.

67 Apr 20 Comment Larry,

I agree on the blue skies. I get to capture eagles up here in the winter and although they look nice in a blue sky, I don't find much interest in that unless I really get in close for a head shot. Having a varied, interesting, and non-distracting background really makes a shot. Spending the time to find that is sometimes a challenge.

67 Apr 20 Comment Larry,

Something about snakes makes me not like them :-). I will just applaud those who can get close.

I love the sharpness of the bird with almost a painterly feel on the background. It looks like you were panning a bit. which provides a nice look. I do like that there is some variety in the background without being distracting.

67 Apr 20 Comment Jason,

You can just feel the emotion in the shot with the little one. I do like the slightly tighter crop, making it more intimate. How fortunate to have the opportunity to capture those images in the wild.

67 Apr 20 Comment Michael,

Well, snakes are not on my list of favorite animals, at least to get close to one :-). Bravo for stepping in there! You really have some nice detail in the mouth, which really draws the eye to that. I do agree with Larry that perhaps darkening some of the surrounding leaves would be less distracting. Well done!

What a spectacular image! Not really I can about it, especially the re-worked one. Just captivating.

67 Apr 20 Comment Larry and Richard,

Thank you for your comments. The right flipper was what I was exactly struggling with. As you tried, I cropped out the flipper but it did not look correct. I also tried including the entire flipper, but image looked off balance. I ended up with just enough that balanced the two, although I understand your point on the partial flipper. A problem I was not able to solve, although I still like the image.
