Thanks Judy. I didn't find anything about those competition rules. I've already entered NECCC competitions this year as well as years before. |

Hi Judy, thanks for the encouragement. I looked at the MAC website and find nothing for such a competition. Maybe it's not set yet?
Also is there any rule that PSA members cannot compete in different chapters. I currently compete in the NECCC and will be attending their conference in July with assumption that it will happen. Thanks. Bob |

Hi Karen. Yes, add me also to the comments of Bob W. I was new guy on the scene as Bob W cut his PSA work load. I have shot Grizzly's with eye contact. From the park bus in Denali. Of course they would let anyone off the bus but bean bag on the open window and fire away. Filled frame with my 200-500mm. Karen, you didn't state whether you were in a vehicle or staying next to your tripod as the bear walked by. |

Ron, yes you did capture the intensity on your fellow photogs. Maybe in Pelouse? Never been there myself. Good depth of field. I wonder if you considered cropping the gray sky or using Ps to replace the sky to get some clouds in there? If cropping I would bring crop all the way down to the tree tops. The buildings are already cropped so no loss there but a bald sky should always (IMO) be removed, it distracts from your subjects. |

Ron, I apologize for the delay and the faulty memory at the top. The Topaz Studio2 "Look" that I used for "Fur&Feathers" after enlarging cropped image and I used about 70% opacity except for the Hawk's head that I put a mask over. Ron, I found Topaz Studio the key to my making painterly/creative/Abstract images. I do basic editing in LrC then go to Studio from LrC or Ps (if I had to use content aware fill) then pick out several filters to learn (trial and error) and watch for drop downs. I use Motion filter many times and use a combo of Zoom (default) and Twirl. Use masks on areas you do not wish to disturb, copy and paste that mask into other filters or looks and then go thru the looks and mark favorites based on ones you like, apply look, makes edits after applying and to save that custom look, "update settings". I also have a 1.5 hr video on Topaz Swirls that was just added on you tube. Let me know if you need more info. |

Thanks Gunter, I probably will have PS select subject and composite with an another background for the Hawk, but I like the fact that I was able to create an acceptable background. Also on my mind was fact that another Creative group has a challenge for me to create an abstract with a bird. I know not the usual challenge but it causes one to be more Creative than pasting it into another background. |

Gunter, I really like the dramatic sky and sly lighting in this image. If mine, I would of tried the new LrC select subject and probably not done much to the sky but would of tried "inverting" to add just a smidge of shade opening and sharpness of the foreground grasses. Just a tiny bit so that it stays natural looking. Next time maybe just make your tripod or camera height a touch higher so the tall grasses on the right do not merge with the horizon. Well done. |

Nice thinking on this Karen. Balancing out the whites works for me. The foot, bill and the eye make this a powerful high key image. Great exposure, sharpness and the leaning composition remove any doubt that this was a static bird photo. |

This is a fantastic image Tim. Great color and frozen action. The water over the stern and under the bow hitting the rescuer brings it the image to life. I understand your caption mentions tourists on the rocks and wonder if a wider angle ie: 100mm would of told that part of the story. I assume you were up on the rocks with camera ready. I also see a small line from the bow perhaps leading to a larger boat. Regardless of those observations, I really like the shot and understand you did what you could do. Great choice for shutter speed and DofF. |

Hi Pete. Yes, I understand my mind plays tricks on me regularly. The water was rain and even though it was in NH they get plenty of polluted air from the mid&western parts, the water very clear. Unlike the water that was under the lily pad that was unhealthy. It's just reinforces me to look for the unseen and then be creative with it. |

Israel, in my mind it was NOT luck. You were gifted with Light because of good planning and abilities. Moments like this, captured for all to see have regularly found your camera. That's more than luck.

I agree with your choice for composition. Probably because you were early and knew where you needed to be located. Another indication of a great photographer. I agree with darkening the women's hair in the bottom right. You were right-on with this composition and metering. |

Nice flower image Bunny. I like the composition, texture and the combination of lighting. I do think it is a bit soft in the center but perhaps that was intentional via software or your 1/10 sec shutter speed. Definitely better choice than the orange in the color version. |

Nick, this is a great action shot. I wonder what the next frame of two shows? Perhaps you still got the riders face but with a more prevalent "rooster tail"from the side? Also a small nit but I think the number "2" of "Z" could have the highlights reduced. I also like to learn about shutter speeds used to stop the forward movements but capture the "tail" on the back. What was the best shutter speed? |

Very nice composition and texture on this image Emil. I might try several times to see if I could use content aware on that blurred grass tassel, but wouldn't lose sleep over it. Well done. |

Hi Pete, this is a nice scene to capture. It now has better composition (thanks to Israel) and I also like the texture and the grasses that have been added to the left. Pleasing range of tones. Since adding and removing is in vogue on this image, I think the tree limb/stick? in the woods behind the right chair should be cloned out. Since the chair is the lightest tone in the image I was drawn to whatever this limb/stock is and find it distracting. Please make it disappear.

LuAnn. What a beautiful monotone image so evenly lite and graceful. Composition is excellent and I find the leaf on the left with the light center to be so compelling. It's a perfect 10. |
