Thanks Jeri. There was a misreading of the title of the image. I think Joan had California on her mind, but I titled it ColdFrontGold and the image was taken here in Virginia.
Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks Rick. I did make it to Taos but two hours further North was out of the question. A beautiful area I am sure. |

This is a perfect image to use the panorama. The added exposure also works for me. I also like the added buoys that you had cropped initially. I believe it delivers on a stormy image.

Very nice Rick. I'm going to take a wild guess and call that Santa Fe mountain? In 2015 we drove to the peak lodge and took the chair lift to the top. Color was as beautiful as you have depicted. What I don't understand is why or how did the top of the closest mountain get cropped or chopped. It doesn't look like the part of the mountain with all the towers above the ski area. I think that causes viewer confusion. As usual you iPhone Pro Max and Luminar do a great job. |

Excellent image Joan. Great colors and patterns on the Ferris wheel and super composite job to create the happy face. I might of used the dehire filter on the lower portion of Ferris wheel to strengthen the colors, but that's just me with my bold color ideas. |

Hi Jeri. I prefer the larger image and don't mind the crooked old walkway. Photo 2 just doesn't look right with the door on the angle. Yes, walk is more level but I think the door is more important. The Leaves at the end of photo 2 would be more compelling if they were all in focus. That's very difficult or impossible to have that depth of field with a f 2.4 exposure. I think photo 1 could be improved if you had zoomed in closer to include the cement area like photo2. That would eliminate stumbling on the boulder. So yes, to summarize, frame cement abutment like in photo 2 but go with the door as it should be (vertical) and forget the leaves. You might have to go back late some night and knock on the door to ask permission. |

Thanks Kirsti. It's one of my favorite locations just across the road from me, but we are in a valley and the color from sunrise or sunset doesn't often appear so well in the sky. When It does look good, I'm out the door in a flash. |

Hi Kirsti. You have a good idea trying to show the motion and I believe you showed that in the lower 2 thirds of the image. I like the effect on the 3 red buoys, and even on the 2nd row of buoys. Yes, I probably would make the image brighter, but more importantly I would crop the image at the waters edge/treeline. I do not believe that area is contributing anything to the image. If I had my tripod I probably would of just gone with the slow shutter speed, but thanks to your creativeness I would now add another exposure.

Thanks LuAnn. I appreciate the your thoughts. This pp was quick but I spend 90 in minutes in the field and kept over 100 images. Actually I still have 140 but will be culling more. I haven't seen those YouTube videos because I would never remember the details if they give seconds or counting to do it one way or another. No way I can remember so I just go on to the next subject or technique. That's the beauty of digital, it replaces all the notes I tried to keep using film.
We had a quiet Christmas and managed to have 30min+ FaceTime calls with our two kids and their families.
Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and are healthy. I had wondered because I hadn't seen any recent comments. Take care and we'll catchup with you in January. |

Thanks Pete. A Flash? It's been in the closet or camera bag unused for 4 years. I'll try to remember for next year. The tree is dark enough that the movement does not bother me. |

Thanks Bunny. But, I too also had a Charles Needle workshop in 2017 in the Smokies and it's taken these years to get it done. The most important ingredient is to have the right subject and a (small 2 ac) forest with all the same type of trees planted in rows is when it all came together. Not every image worked but I shot over 150 images in the 90 min. So don't give up, someday the right subject will yell out at you. "Charles Needle" In Camera Motion. |

Hi Bunny. I like your bottle and the details in your background. Exposure on flowers coming from the bottle and the bottle are excellent. However, I have a problem with the two flowers? at the base of the bottom. The flower on the left is too small and lacks definition to add anything to the image. The right flower has great definition.
But my problem with this still life and 95% of still life's that I have ever created, is finding items that relate to the image. Just very difficult to relate them together. I can't think of something to replace that white flower with, but believe it should be larger than that flower or removed and move the green thing to the left side. |

Great composition and seeing the image Leah. You have a great range of tones from the white side of the steeple to the shadows below. My only suggestion would be to try another day to improve by having a more interesting sky, or using Lightroom/Photoshop or Luminar to replace that sky with more interesting or contrasting sky. |

I too think that Cinnamon is beautiful and I love all the textures in the hair and on her blanket. Her eyes are tack sharp and they make the image work. I do wish that her nose was also in sharp focus.
6-7 weeks to be normal doesn't seem that far away considering how close the year of social distancing has gone by. Stay safely on course.

Another great image Israel. A rusty truck framed so perfectly to show the name "Solitaire" and with the Sand mountains in the background and nothing else from civilization showing. A minor point, but I think you could of gone a little wider on your zoom to include all of the shadow from the truck. Understand, it might of been impossible while keep the Solitaire showing in the back window or not getting others in your frame.

No problem. You are a Ps master that I will never be. Sorry, I didn't catch your thought about intending the image stay dark. |

Emil. I really Love the Window and Stairway type of image with the patching paint and wear and wear of everything. I personally would like to see the window and wall /ceiling in that area lighter and hopefully get more light up to the landing on the stairs. I've tried, but I can't get the image to be less pixelated. I recently did a Zoom webinar with Dave Kingham and he has a different, yes one of many, way of processing that has worked well on my Raw images. It involves going minus 100 on the blacks and then pulling back on exposure so there is plenty of room to prevent clipping the whites and neutrals when they are adjusted in the tone curves. As you and Pete pointed out that its important to keep the window exposure low enough to see the wire and I believe the wall at the top of the stairs should show a little more details than you achieved. Your thoughts? |

Don't laugh too much, but, I just read Wikipedia to learn what a zine is and how it is used /distributed etc. I don't have enough close contacts to distribute too but that is great for you LuAnn. I've went in opposite directions by making a collection of my images on my website or publishing 1 or 2 hard cover books with blurb. You did an excellent job with the capture and PP of the image. The only tiny suggestion would be to rotate the image so that the leaf center line comes out more towards the bottom left corner. Not exactly from the corner, but lower than present giving the leaf center line more influence leading to the head of the fly. My assumption is that you have the extra real estate on the image to crop this way.
