Joan, this is a Great image. I like the S curves and the colors leading my eye into the image. I Love the sky and lighting and believe a dotty sky is better than gray or blue with no clouds. If the boardwalk permitted, I I'm going to Yellowstone this fall, I would of looked to move the broad orange S curve more towards the left corner or even the right corner if that composition worked. Anxious to see this. |

A beautiful image Rick. The frame is perfect and the Topaz adjustments make the image sing. Merry Christmas! |

Jeri, I agree with Joan on the not for Nature, some judges will say that the cut wall stones are also not nature. My eye travels around the image looking for a clear cut subject and unfortunately I just do not find a subject. Keep up with the shooting. |

Thanks Jeri. Yes that's the place. This was at the end of the shortened pre-storm sunset and with the Nor'easter coming the next day, 2nd week of October, and most of the boats had been pulled or moved away from the harbor mouth. Yes, it is dark in the inner harbor and when I tried to lighten up the lower yellow in the sky turned white. Understand not ideal, my original image has a brighter inner harbor and 10 minutes later all color had disappeared. Appreciate your comments. I'll try to see if I can make a happy medium before entering at photo club. |

Thanks for all of your comments Phil. I have incorporated many of them on this new image. I had used the house on the left previously to level the horizon. The topography actually slopes to the right as you can see in this image. I tried to level, but the "Town Hall" only tower remaining, needs to remain level to keep the locals happy. Many times, I leave things that should be corrected, like that tree branch, in previous image so we all can learn. The towers, I had not picked up on so thanks for that. |

Great shot of this bird Phil. And great use of tools in all of those applications. I can't think of or see anything that I would change. Excellent job with the Luminar sky.
Happy New Year |

Thank you for your comments Julie. Your idea of moving the moon has its problems. I don't use Photoshop (I use Luminar) so I do not have the ability to copy and paste pixels. I have various moon images and the moons are in different positions, but LuAnn and others liked the idea of having the moon with clouds. I have many fewer moons with clouds. The moon behind clouds made it so I could get away without have shadows and that was another reason for cutting part of the foreground, I didn't have to address the no shadow issue. In the days of old, we did the best we could with taking the shot in the field, now we have so many choices to make changes But ...They have to be made so the viewer believes what he/she is seeing is accurate and possible. Changing skies is now so much easier, but the result needs to be possible. I'm just in the early stages of learning this process and thought it would be helpful to everyone. You are right on...The light source in the image is key to making or improving an image.
Have a Great Week. |

Pete, sorry I didn't see your question earlier. Yes, Efex Pro present #18 is full spectrum Inverse. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. |

I like that version in terms of being lit better, but I'm not remembering that warmer light being seen or recorded, that's why I didn't warm up the light. I was expecting you or others to comment that the moon was too big for being that high in the sky. The Moon size doesn't bother you? |

Interesting for sure. Great capture and editing. You went much further with the editing than I ever would think of doing and you made it work. A great use of Silver Efex (inverse filter>)? The textures throughout the image really enhance.
Great seeing to visualize turning the color image into this work of art. |

Israel, you do such a good job with low light images. I have no suggestions about the candles and the women. I do think that the child is in the shadows and should be made brighter, Or, Perhaps you meant it this way and did not want to detract from the main subject of the woman. |

Gary, I like your image as you have captured the ship in great composition, whites and blacks, an idea of the geography on the far shore and the white lines draw the viewers eyes to the upper decks of the ship. Perhaps you tried it already, but I would try the red filter to see if the sky would go darker without throwing everything else off. Best part of all is an excellent image to remind you of your trip.
Happy Holidays to you and yours. |

LuAnn. A great capture and the eyes, texture in the hair, closed mouth smile and even the hat all add to the image. I would suggest darkening the gray sign? behind her head. It doesn't add anything and I keep trying to keep my eye from going there. Oliver's cropping and darkening helped in that regard. I would reduce the brightness of her face from your image, but would make it brighter than Olivers. I like the eyes better on the original image. |

Well done Julie. You did fantastic for "trying" out layers. A very good eye to imagine combining these two layers as the background for the original shot was not going to work for you. Black background no problem for me. I wouldn't change anything else, even her contrasty face as it shows she didn't take time for "makeup" before running away to get married.
A Great Job |

I agree with you Oliver. We shouldn't be using Luminar skies. Yours sky looks great except too many colors for Monochrome. I Luv how you got that Milky Way behind the tree. I find color sky replacements easier than Monochromes. I've been spending time editing sky pics to BW and then giving them a try. I found 1 that should work for LuAnn as I have sky & clouds and foreground darker. Can't figure out how to make a shadow. But we will keep it a secret that these images are composites. I used Topaz to make the BW as I have a webinar for using it on Thursday. I found a moon image that works for me, sorry moon is more centered than I would like. What say you all? |

Film? Sorry, No more BW, last used in 2003 when I got it free from small town newspaper and they processed and scanned. 100% digital since my Nikon D100. I believe as many do, that digital has surpassed what can be accomplished with film. Shoot up a storm and enjoy.
I'm not having much luck fixing my moonshine image. I won't be trying to add clouds to the sky as that is our little secret. I needed to basically start over as I'm not using photoshop. I have a darker moon ready to go.

Thanks for you comments LuAnn. They are very helpful and since I do not have a lot of experience with moon replacement. I will work of some improvements.
We had a great Thanksgiving And I hope that you did also. About time that you will be shooting snow covered scenes?
Catch you later.
