You have touched upon a very interesting question, is it possible to photograph people without their consent.
I have always been concerned about this problem, in public places I photograph without permission, but if I see that the person being photographed does not want this, then I stop taking photographs.

You did a great job, there is texture and sharpness in the nearby flowers. Have you tried macro photography using stacked focus?
I think Adrian's idea (square crop) is more suitable.

Hi Emil,
I like this place, the road and the sky lead you into the distance in parallel.
In your B/W photo the center of attraction is the road and in Pete's B/W version the sky, this is so thought-provoking.
