That is one of the problems with 2475 recording film. It was designed for recording technical data so has a very steep gamma and thus easy to blow out the highlight and lose shadow detail. So there is no detail in the pencils nor in wall behind him.
I tried drawing in lines to replicate the pencils but either they were too thin and disappeared or too thick and did not look correct.

My technique is basically the same with all my paintings. The original is processed with Dynamic Auto Painter several times. Sometimes I will try different presets, sometimes the same preset with different settings, e.g. brush size, hue, contrast, palettes, etc.
From the resulting images I will select anywhere from 1-9 versions and stack them over the original. Then using layer blends, focused erasures, cloning and a liberal application of adjustment layers I will finally run out of bright ideas and declare it completed. For now.
With previous submissions I had mentioned DAP but no one on this group seems to know it so I had stopped adding that detail. |

Cindy,
Thank you for your kind comments.
I was walking with a group of friends when I saw this gentleman up ahead. I preset my camera, walked past him, pivoted back and waited until he turned and looked directly at me. One shot only.
I think the second most important element in this image is the man walking away from the subject. It says so much about this situation.
This shot has haunted me for these many years.
